As many of you know we have enjoyed hosting a yearly pancake breakfast in support of St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, however, the pandemic has prevented us from doing that again this year. While tossing around ideas for an alternate fundraiser, our good friend Roger told us he and his mom were participating in Americaās Shamrock Run to raise funds for St Judeās and wanted to Holy Cow to be a part of it all. Roger also learned that his buddy, JAKE was a former St. Jude patient, and Jake will be doing the run with Roger. Both Jake and Roger know a little something about being hospitalized at an early age, but this is about Jake and his story as it directly relates to St. Judeās Hospital for Children:
In 2000, Jake was diagnosed with Anaplastic Ependymoma, an aggressive cancerous brain tumor. Following the surgery to remove the brain tumor, doctors gave Jake a 30% chance of survival. After learning about St. Jude Childrenās Research Hospitalās ground-breaking clinical treatment trial which was yielding 80% survival rates, his family decided that St. Jude offered the most hopeful treatment option. Jake lived at Ronald McDonald house in Memphis, Tennessee while receiving stereotactic radiation, as opposed to the standard chemotherapy of the time. Stereotactic radiation, along with higher survival rates, would offer a better long-term quality of life. In 2016 Jake āgraduatedā from St. Jude as a childhood cancer survivor. Jake is a 2016 Red Hook High School graduate and went on to pursue a degree in Broadcast Journalism at SUNY Oswego and is currently pursuing career options as a Sports Broadcaster.
In the meantime Jake and his friend Roger (many of you may know Roger from Rogerās Run 4 AMC more about that to come soon but right now this is about St Judeās and Jakeās Journey) have decided to CHALLENGE Holy Cow (PB and Lisa) to see which team can raise more money for St. Judeās Childrenās hospital. TEAM HOLY COW and TEAM JAKE AND ROGER will be competing to raise the most funds for St. Judeās Hospital for children. Who do you think will win?
Anytime during the month of March 2021, stop by Holy Cow to support either TEAM HOLY COW or TEAM JAKE and ROGER by donating to St. Judes. There will be a ācoinā bucket at the front counter for each team and we will keep a running tally of funds raised by each team. You can also support by purchasing a āone of a kind designedā t-shirt. T-shirts will be available for sale at Holy Cow during normal business hours. When you purchase your t-shirt simply inform the cashier which team you would like to support and the proceeds from that shirt sale will be credited to the team of your choice.
If you cannot make it to Holy Cow, you can make a donation at either teamās fundraising page found here:
