No Screens At The Table

No Screens At The Table This movement is an attempt to reduce excessive screen use while dining, especially with children. Please join my movement! Say no to screens at the table!!!

Support screen free restaurants and demand that screens be turned off during meal time with family or friends. I am starting a movement in an attempt to end the use of screens at the table (specifically the use of iPads and smartphones at restaurants). I am hoping to create an awareness of the negative impact screens are having on the lives of young children. Young minds are being ruined and it ne

eds to stop. Look around at any restaurant these days and most certainly you'll see people "screened up." THIS IS NOT OK. Take a look at the research. There is no benefit to putting kids on screens while having a meal. Doing this to babies should be criminal. You should talking to your kids, engaging them in conversations, helping build those neural connections that would be naturally occurring with human to human communication. When you put a screen in a child's hands, you are literally shutting them down and stunting their brain development. While the objective is peace and quiet, or calm behavior while dining at a restaurant, you are inadvertently harming the developing brain. This is at a critical time when brain development is so crucial. Please read some of the research and then join my movement.

Too much of it is a problem. And “too much” varies from person to person.

It's been a minute! I'm sorry haven't posted in quite a while. Since I don't have that many followers, I didn't think it would be a problem. It saddens me but our lives are so thoroughly dependent and dominated by screens these days (think school, shopping, socializing, work, ordering food in restaurants). I haven't felt the need to post more articles about the negative aspects of screen use that would only make us (me!) feel worse about the excessive screen time we're all having to endure. After the pandemic started and schools shut down on March 13, 2020, I've had to reevaluate my relationship with devices. I used to limit my kids' screen use big time, now it's ESSENTIAL for just about everything they do with the exception of sports practices. Even that involved virtual zoom practices for a while. While trying to distract myself from the harsh reality and state of the world, I've been trying to garden more and I've been listening to podcasts nonstop. mostly TED Talks and Brene Brown's Unlocking Us. So amazing!!! So my new idea is to focus on what we CAN do as opposed to what we can't do right now. More to come.... Stay safe, all!
