Founded in 1977, by Carl and Lin Carnevale, third generation Ramona residents. D'Carlos started out as a Gourmet Restaurant serving items like Roasted Leg of Lamb. Long before D’Carlos became the family‑favorite restaurant Ramona knows today, the building had a colorful past — starting with its very first name: The Wayward Ho, a playful, tongue‑in‑cheek pun on the pioneer phrase “Westward Ho!” that fit right into Ramona’s rustic, old‑California charm.

Built in 1964, The Wayward Ho later became the Santa Maria Inn, serving locals and travelers for years. In 1977, Keith and his family purchased the property, rebranded it as D’Carlos, and created the warm, welcoming, family‑style dining experience that has defined the restaurant for nearly five decades. Today, the current owners, the Pollett’s continue to honor those roots with the same comfort‑driven menu and hometown hospitality.
