❤️🍜 The Story Behind General Phở Vietnamese Kitchen: Built by Our Community
As we have shared before, General Phở Vietnamese Kitchen, located at 944 N. Dixie Boulevard, Radcliff, KY, was not built by one person or one company. It was built through the support of our community, dedicated builders, contractors, skilled tradespeople, businesses, friends, and family who accepted the challenge of helping us transform an aging building into what it is today.
We want to take a moment to recognize and thank the people and companies who have been part of this journey.
First, we would like to thank Realty World Knox Realty Group, Mr. Terry Shortt, and Mrs. Andra Shortt for introducing us to the property and for their advice, guidance, and support throughout the entire process.
It all started with Mr. Norman and William, who helped clean up and remove the debris and overgrowth around the outside of the building. They cleared the property, cut back the trees, and helped prepare the site for the journey ahead.
Mr. Lenny provided the initial planning for the project, while Mr. Tracy Helm provided valuable guidance and information about subcontractors, helping us understand where to begin and who could help bring this project together.
Mr. Danny, our City Building Inspector, provided invaluable knowledge and guidance that helped us make the right decisions to bring the building up to code. We also used the information he provided to better understand and plan for the funding required for the project.
Chef Supply, through Mr. Scott, worked with us to develop the restaurant floor plan and helped us begin turning our vision into reality. Later, Mr. Jerry and the Chef Supply team returned to install our commercial hood system, another major step toward making our kitchen fully operational.
Mrs. Rhonda assisted with the initial electrical work by checking the wiring and labeling the electrical panels for inspection, which helped allow the power company to restore electricity to the building.
Home Comfort, through Mr. Stone, evaluated the condition of the existing HVAC systems and helped us understand what needed to be repaired or replaced.
We also worked with South Central Bank, especially Mr. Miller, on our loan application to secure funding for this project. We are equally grateful to Mrs. Patricia at the SBA, who helped us develop our business plan and navigate the loan process.
Joshua and Renee helped repair the foundation, level the floors as much as possible, improve drainage, and place gravel around the building. Their work helped create a more level floor and a stronger foundation for the renovation.
Mr. Domingo and his sister painted the building and gave it a fresh new appearance. After spending so much time looking at the old purple color, the transformation was definitely a welcome sight.
A major part of this transformation was completed by Flip Remodeling, a family business owned by Michael and Richard, with the big boss, Mrs. Stormy, serving as the driving force behind the team. ❤️
Their team took on an enormous amount of work, including installing a new metal roof, completing interior demolition, building a new ceiling, repairing and constructing walls, installing flooring, replacing windows and doors, remodeling the bathrooms, assisting with electrical and lighting work, building the support wall in the basement, painting the interior, and constructing the outdoor deck.
Beyond the construction work, Flip Remodeling also served as our general contractor, coordinating with other skilled trades and companies to keep this complicated project moving forward.
Through their efforts, we were connected with Alternative Contracting & Electrical LLC, where Mr. Gary completed much of the electrical work, including bringing commercial three-phase electrical service into the building.
We also worked with Comfort Air Solutions, where Brad and his team installed new HVAC systems, ran ductwork, and completed the necessary piping for heating and cooling throughout the building.
Signarama Elizabethtown, especially Ms. Katie, spent countless hours helping us. Through her creativity, passion, and dedication, she designed our signage, menu boards, and banners, helping bring the identity of General Phở Vietnamese Kitchen to life.
Knight’s Backhoe Service, led by Mr. Knight, along with his team and family, completed the plumbing work, installed the gas lines, and installed the grease trap that is essential for restaurant operations.
I can tell you one thing: he is definitely no Mr. Mario! 😂 Judging by his size, he may have eaten a few too many mushrooms over the years! Fortunately for us, his expertise was exactly what this project needed. 🍄😂
The final touch to the landscape near the deck was completed by Schott Property Services, with Nick and his team, including Thomas, creating the waterfall feature.
That waterfall brings a sense of peace and serenity in the middle of the daily chaos of life. It is truly a beautiful piece of natural artwork and a special finishing touch to the property.
Looking back at everything that has happened, this project has truly been a community effort.
Every person and every company contributed their time, knowledge, skills, equipment, ideas, and hard work to help transform an old building into the future home of General Phở Vietnamese Kitchen.
There were many challenges along the way. There were moments when the project felt overwhelming, and there were times when we wondered how we were going to reach the finish line.
But one step at a time, one person at a time, and one challenge at a time, we kept moving forward.
We are incredibly grateful for everyone who helped and supported us along the way, including my sister, our neighbor Mrs. Ellen, whom I call Maman, and the veteran family that I met and came to consider part of our own family. We are also thankful for Mrs. Nancy and the family at Lee's China Bistro, her brother at Autumn Garden, the Sam's Gyros family, and many others who encouraged us throughout this journey. If we have unintentionally missed anyone, please know that your support and kindness have not been forgotten, and we are truly grateful.
General Phở Vietnamese Kitchen is more than just a restaurant. It is the result of a community coming together to help a family pursue a dream.
