Yoga should heal your body, not hurt it.
That is why I bring 26 years of personal practice and a blend of science and movement to every class:

• The Science: I am a trained neuropsychologist specializing in trauma-sensitive and adaptive yoga. I understand how your brain, nervous system, and muscles interact. This affects fitness, balance, breath and flexibility. This is especially important in a hot room when blood flow and pressures are impacted.

The Experience: I have been teaching yoga for 9 years and gymnastics for 12 years, with deep roots in circus and contortion arts. I’ve practiced with world-class hand balancers and taught yogis who are wheelchair and walker bound. A good teacher can handle a whole room of levels at once.

• The Lineage: I trained in hot yoga for 6 years under world-class IYSF USA teachers. Prior to this I was an Ashtanga focused yogi who loves cyoga and gymnastics. Because of my wide training styles I can bring options and speak at a different level of instruction that others cannot. I know the Sanskrit.

What makes our new Hot Room different?
We are a small, boutique space. You will never be packed into a crowded, unmonitored room. Instead, you get semi-private, 1-on-1 attention. We can hold 16-18 but we cap at 8 for a reason. This isn’t about making money off of 25 people crammed like sardines - it is about finding personal peace.

Whether you are recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or looking for an elite workout that respects your joints, your mat is waiting. Don’t go to a place where instructors don’t know or understand anatomy and yoga postures. Reconsider taking classes where the instructor cannot articulate body and breath motion. You do not need to just watch your instructor - they need to be able to speak in a manner that you can follow them your way.

Here at Rooted - I am one of the best in the Midwest. The world- but this rhymed. Whatever level you are at - we can work with you without hurting you.

I used Ai for the pic. The robot on Google decided orange was a great color. It refused to add me or convert to green. Sacral safety entered the chat.

Next chance to yoga together is Tues and Wed at 9am. We start standing, move to kneeling, seated, on belly then on backs. We end reclined in savasana.

Every posture is an option with many options within it. It’s all one. This class helps strengthen balance and legs, open hips, lengthen the spine and increase body awareness.

It’s great for people with hand and wrist issues - we spend no time on them! No downdog. No chaturanga.

It’s great for people with dizziness in class upon standing - we don’t go upside down or fold forward after the first 15 mins. It’s not hot Ashtanga. I question the physiological safety of this choice when I take other classes 👎

It’s great for people who don’t want to or can’t get on and off the floor over and over again. We don’t do that in this class 🙂‍↔️

Every class here at Rooted can be taken in a chair or adapted to every body. As they say where I practice - Anyone with a spine can take yoga!!! This series is, in my opinion, the most accessible of the scripted sequences.

Last nights class was awesome! Thank you to everyone who came. The 26&2 helped heal my knees after surgeries. It helped heal my heart when our sons were gone. I hope you begin to fall in love with it, too. 85F is hot - it isn’t “that hot” ….

ANTs 🐜! 😱 Automatic negative thoughts. These are intrusive and sometimes distressing thoughts that arise naturally in our brains. The goal of yoga is to help silence these thoughts.
During your practice and throughout the day, how often do ANTs crawl their way in? By focusing the thoughts on how the body feels and making a choice about how to breathe, move or balance keeps the ANTs away. It trains us to be able to fight them quicker when they arise.
The language that you use when you speak to yourself matters. The language your TEACHER uses matters. If your teacher is continually off script, loses the breath, forgetting mid sentence, would rather sing along to their own soundtrack- this isn’t helpful and they haven’t trained to still their minds. It leads to teachers who make statements like “my left side is always bad at this. Ughhh” - that creeps in the students head too. “I can’t do this because I’m old and I’m a mom now haaa” - that creeps in your students heads. “I feel this in my outer hip. You should too. If you don’t, do this more until you feel it in your hip.” This causes injury and poor thought in the student.
Nothing is more harmful than a teacher poking and inflaming your fire ant hill. You might start to find that you crave that stimulus and high-energy. Fire ants give hot feelings. They also burn like hell.
Fight your ANTs. Train your brain to attend to the waves of neutrality. The waves of truth.
For one hour, hear nothing but your own voice. Train to attend to you. The mobility, strength and balance will come. It’s time to do the yoga! 🧘🏻‍♀️

PSA 📣 Chicken Chat 1! Don’t be a jerk. Jackie O Lantern teaches about yoga. Everyone comes to your studio any given day different and seeking peace. Talking about the differences between trauma sensitive and trauma informed Yoga. They are not the same. TSY has a facilitator, not a teacher. The facilitator will guide you through the practice of feeling your body in the present moment and making an informed choice about what to do. This practice will follow you off of the mat. We are called to be gentle guides, encouraging people towards the state of balance, neutrality, and peace. We ask students to approach their bodies and their practices without judgment. This means without assigning valence - it also means without asking students to do and feel what we are doing. In fact to ask a student to do exactly what we are doing is harmful - of course they can’t. It is harmful to ask a student to notice the same place in their body that you notice yours. It loses the practice. It’s also harmful to ask a student to move the same way. The teacher is moving as the teacher moves. Every body is different and every posture feels different each time.

‼️ Yoga is not a choreographed dance class. When we as teachers and as Studios begin to approach Yoga as monkey see monkey do, we harm our students. We fail to see our students as they are in the present moment. We fail to see the uniqueness in our students. By allowing our students to make their own choices we prevent the Yoga from leaving the studio and we handicap the practice. Today if you made a mindful choice about your body, you did Yoga - if you followed along with somebody else and did what they we’re doing because you felt like you had to or in a lack of awareness know there is another choice.

You can choose to value your own voice.
Find someone who can guide you to connecting with and using your own voice - someone who sees you.

Video 2, expanding on open and closed knee joints, as well as rotation of the hip. Mathematically, there are only so many combinations that the body can be in knowing that these combinations are the same whether you are standing, seated, reclined, on your belly, or upside down in an inversion or arm balance. The math is still the same for whether your knee joint is open or closed and where you have your hip in the 360.
Teach your mind to think about a certain place in your body and then teach your mind to move that place in your body. Do it with choice & in this way you are doing yoga - no matter what way that you move your body during yoga, if it is safe and choice-based, it is never wrong. It is always the most yoga.
