Labor Day feels a little different when you live and work in a small community like ours. Behind so much of what we serve at The Putney Diner is someone else’s hard work.
It’s the early mornings on the farm. The long days in the fields and barns. The bakers starting before most of us are awake. The producers who care deeply about what they make. The drivers getting it where it needs to go. And then, of course, the cooks, dishwashers, servers, hosts, and everyone else who brings it all together once it reaches our doors.
We’re incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by people who still believe in growing, raising, making, and producing things with care.
From our friends at Leaping Bear Farm, Miller Farm, High Meadows Farm, Sun Hill Farm, Sweet Pickins Farm, Nomad Farm, Vermont Wagyu, Vermont Shepherd, The Bread Shed, Mocha Joe's Roasting Company, and Harlows Sugar Houser, to the many other local farmers, makers, vendors, and small businesses we work with throughout the year — there are a whole lot of hardworking hands behind what eventually lands on your plate or fills your coffee cup.
Not every one of our partners is named here, but every one of them is appreciated.
And that’s really what we want to celebrate this Labor Day Weekend.
The people who get up every day and do the work. The people who take pride in their craft. The small businesses supporting other small businesses. And the community that chooses to support all of us in return.
Because when you eat local, shop local, and support local, that support travels a whole lot farther than you might realize. It helps keep farms farming, makers making, small businesses going, and communities like ours connected.
From our little corner of Vermont, thank you to all the hardworking hands that help put food on our tables and make this community what it is.
