Our friend Jim’s place is a DMV staple 🏡☀️

A 100-year-old garden center in Purcellville has been reimagined.

Five Loudoun County friends purchased Abernethy & Spencer Greenhouse & Garden Center in 2024 and transformed it into a destination space rather than just a retail nursery.

Today, the 9-acre property includes:
• Eight greenhouses
• A restored conservatory with a gift shop and café
• The rentable Glassroom for events and workshops
• Hundreds of plant varieties, including native species

They’ve also added features like a coffee cart, hands-on workshops, and plans for a walking trail to encourage visitors to spend more time on-site.

The group came from different careers, but shared a goal of preserving a historic local business while adapting it for the community today.

PURCELLVILLE POLICE TO HOST COFFEE WITH A COP EVENT

PURCELLVILLE, Va. April 21, 2026 – On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, community members are invited to join the Purcellville Police Department for “Coffee with a Cop” from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The event will be held at the new SimplyBe Coffee shop located inside Giant Food at 1000 East Main Street, Purcellville, Virginia. Come meet your neighborhood police officers and engage in conversation with no agenda, no speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice any concerns, and get to know the officers who serve in our community.

We are thankful to our hosts, SimplyBe Coffee, which extends employment and internship opportunities to individuals with special needs, and is a part of the local non-profit organization, Tree of Life Ministries. The official grand opening of the SimplyBe Coffee Purcellville location will be held at a later date; therefore, this event is a special “sneak peek” for local residents. Visitors can enjoy a free cup of coffee and sample their delicious pastries.

Events like Coffee with a Cop play an important role in community policing by fostering trust, strengthening relationships, and building meaningful connections between officers and the people we serve. We encourage all residents to stop by, share their perspectives, and be an active part of keeping our community connected and safe.

This program originated from the national Coffee with a Cop initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, which aims to break down barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve. Coffee with a Cop brings law enforcement officers and community members together over coffee to discuss issues and learn more about each other. The Purcellville Police Department traditionally hosts Coffee with a Cop events bi-monthly at various times and locations throughout the Town of Purcellville.
