The Weekend Update! Sept 28-Oct 3rd

Make plans to hang with your DTK Pals!

4 years ago Hurricane Ian, a Category 5, came to SWFL. We had been open for only 5 short months. We were absolutely terrified once the winds died down that the building would be destroyed and our brand new business would be done before it ever really started.

Well we lucked out, the building was fine, basically untouched (this building has been through at least 4 Category 5 hurricanes) but we did lose power like everyone else did. Thankfully and magically we regained power and internet only 3 days after the storm while most people and places were without. DTK was immediately able to open our doors to be a place of solace. A place people could cool off, charge up, check on their neighbors and most importantly, find a calm in the storm and forget the outside world for a little while.

We were able to connect with Operation BBQ and provide a few free hot meals to anyone that needed them, and even had a band come in a few days after the storm to provide some fun and normalcy. When we couldn’t get across town to get BBQ, we would get pizza or bring the grill up. It was our mission to bring happiness to our community.

We will never forget this time in DTK History, mostly because of how we came together as new Team and how we were able to be there for our community when they needed us the most. But what most people don’t know is how much yall helped us. Every one of us in the DTK Team would go home after a day at here to the same nightmare yall had; no power, no ac, generator sounds and damage to our homes. You all gave us purpose and the drive to stay positive and keep moving forward. Thank you for that.

Let’s hope nothing like this ever happens again, but know if it does, DTK will again open its doors and be a safe haven to our community in the aftermath of the storm.

Xoxoxo
