Steamed buns - Bao Zi 包子 - means something wrapped inside in Chinese.
They are a more common form of food group in Northern China.
They are bigger, more filling, easier to carry and consume.
Think of hamburgers, sandwiches and tacos. They all have fillings inside a piece of bread. But, this is in a much more convenient and less messy form.
The flours are raised the same way breads are made.
They are steamed to give you that fluffy taste.
We had a very loyal young customer. Every time she comes in, she would yell "I want that fluffy stuff". We named it Fluffy Steamed Bun.
