DAY 2!! 🍦🚜

And whewww… it’s been a BUSY one!

Today wasn’t festival day just yet — today we took over at Shadybrook Farms and turned it into McLaughlin Family Homemade Ice Cream headquarters for the day. 😂🍦

Prep days are NO JOKE around here. Unless you’ve actually spent a day helping our family, I don’t think anyone truly realizes just how much work goes into this business.

People see us pull into an event, open the window and start scooping ice cream… but there are HOURS and HOURS of work that happen before we ever serve that first dish.

And today was all about one very important thing…

MAKING ICE CREAM. A LOT OF IT. 😳🍦

The tractor was put to WORK churning batch after batch while the rest of us ran around getting everything ready for the big week ahead.

Dad was doing what Dad does best — supervising everything like the entire operation would completely collapse if he looked away for 30 seconds. 😂 oh and don’t forget talking. We know we did lots of that too. 😅

Mom’s passenger princess duties officially ended the second we arrived. 👑😂 Yesterday she got to sit pretty while Dad drove her 835 miles south… today that crown got tossed aside and she was officially clocked in for ice cream duty. Sorry, Mom — vacation’s over! 🤣🍦

Uncle Ron was probably wondering at what point in his life he accidentally signed a lifetime contract with McLaughlin Family Homemade Ice Cream…

Just a friendly reminder, Uncle Ron: you signed that contract the day you married Aunt Gail. There was no fine print. You married into this circus fair and square. 🤣🤣

Zac was just happy nobody handed him another tractor and told him to drive 835 miles. 😂

And the rest of us? Making ice cream, cleaning, organizing, loading, unloading and probably asking ourselves “are we done yet?” approximately 472 times.

But THIS is the part you guys don’t normally get to see. ❤️

The long days. The prep. The work. The family chaos. The behind-the-scenes stuff that makes it possible for us to pull up to these events and hand you a dish of homemade, tractor-churned ice cream.

A HUGE thank you to our friends for letting this crazy Maine ice cream crew invade their farm for a couple days!😂❤️ We promise we’ll give it back when we’re done!

After 835 miles of pure McLaughlin family chaos…

WE HAVE OFFICIALLY ARRIVED IN OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND!!! 🌊🏍️🍦🚜

Dad led the convoy, driving like he personally owned the entire interstate and everyone else was simply borrowing it for the day. 😂

Cruise control set to GET OUTTA MY WAY, one hand on the wheel, the other probably pointing at somebody who wasn’t driving correctly, and his eyes glued to the mirrors making sure the rest of his circus was still behind him. 🤣

Every few miles:

“Where’s Zac?”

“Is Zac back there?”

“Why is Zac so far behind?”

“Tell Zac to keep up!”

Meanwhile Zac is hauling a 95-year-old tractor 835 MILES DOWN THE EAST COAST. 😂🚜

Give the man a SECOND, PARKER. 💀🤣

Mom spent those 835 miles sitting pretty in the passenger seat wearing her Passenger Princess Crown 👑, while Uncle Ron kept Zac company for the long haul.

And somehow…

🍦 The ice cream trailer survived.
🚜 The tractor survived.
🚚 The pickups survived.
👑 Mom survived.
😂 Zac & Uncle Ron survived.

And against ALL odds…

DAD SURVIVED WITHOUT PULLING THE ENTIRE CONVOY OVER AND FIRING EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.🤣🤣🤣

Although there’s still time.

But after 835 miles from Northern Maine…

📍 OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND — THE McLAUGHLINS HAVE ARRIVED!!!

Now somebody take Dad’s keys before he starts directing traffic in the air bnb parking lot like he owns that too. 😂💀

Maine has officially invaded Maryland…

Well folks… THEY’RE OFFICIALLY ON THE ROAD! 🚛🍦🚜💨

The McLaughlin traveling circus pulled out a few hours ago and is currently making its way 835 miles south to Ocean City, Maryland. And everybody has a very important role on this journey. 😂

Dad’s leading the convoy with the ice cream trailer, which means he’s probably white-knuckling the steering wheel, checking every mirror approximately every 4.7 seconds, listening for EVERY SINGLE NOISE the pickup makes and wondering why the rest of them aren’t taking this trip nearly as seriously as he is. 🤣
“What was that noise?!”
Dad… it was a bump. We’re on the highway. PLEASE DRIVE. 😂

Mom has secured her position as Passenger Princess 👑 and her responsibilities include sitting there, looking pretty, providing snacks and occasionally telling Dad he needs to calm down. 😂

Uncle Ron is riding along too, and I can almost guarantee that man is stretched out in the back seat catching up on sleep because somewhere deep down he knows there is an ungodly amount of ice cream dishes waiting for him in Maryland. 🧼🍨🤣
Rest up, Uncle Ron. Your time is coming.

And then we have Zac… bringing up the rear hauling the 1931 John Deere tractor. 🚜

His only instructions:
FOLLOW DAD.
That’s it. That’s the assignment.

So naturally, we’re all just praying he doesn’t look up in six hours and realize he’s somehow in Ohio. 😭😂

One nervous Dad.
One Passenger Princess. 👑
One well-rested future dishwasher.
One Zac we’re hoping can follow taillights.
One 1931 John Deere. 🚜
One ice cream trailer. 🍦
And 835 MILES TO GO!

Well folks… we’re officially in SCRAMBLE MODE 😂🐔🍦

We’re running around like chickens with our heads cut off—packing the trailer, grabbing all the last-minute things, checking our lists 47 times, and somehow still feeling like we’re forgetting something. 🤣

Because TOMORROW MORNING… WE HIT THE ROAD! 🚛💨

And when I say morning, I mean before most of you peeps even open your eyeballs for the day. 😂😴

We’ve got 835 miles between Presque Isle, Maine and Ocean City, Maryland, and we’re beyond excited to get this show on the road!

OC Rock & Ride Bike Fest… the McLaughlins and that tractor-churned homemade ice cream are coming for ya! 🍨 🚜🤘

Well Aroostook County, Maine… it’s been real, it’s been fun, but it’s time for us to pack up and HEAD SOUTH! 🍦🚛💨

And when we say south, we mean 835 MILES SOUTH to Ocean City, Maryland! 🌊🏍️

This one feels a little different for us.

When we started this adventure, we were simply a Maine family carrying on a tradition that started generations before us. A family making REAL homemade ice cream, churning it the old-fashioned way, hauling around a 1931 John Deere tractor and a couple of hit-and-miss engines, and hoping people would love what we do as much as we do.

And somehow… here we are. 🥹

Getting ready to haul that very same setup 835 miles from Northern Maine to Ocean City, Maryland for OC Rock & Ride Bike Fest.

Y’ALL. 🤯

Last year, this festival brought in OVER 500,000 PEOPLE.

500,000!!!!

To put that into perspective… we come from Aroostook County, Maine. 😂 We don’t even know what HALF A MILLION people in one place looks like!!

But we sure are ready to find out. 😏

We are beyond thankful that OC Rock & Ride Bike Fest gave our family and our little business this opportunity because this is EXACTLY what we’ve been working toward.

We want to be seen.

We want people outside of Maine to know the McLaughlin Family Homemade Ice Cream name.

We want them to walk by our trailer, see that old John Deere running, hear those engines popping, stop and ask, “What in the world are these people doing?!” 😂

And then we want them to taste our ice cream and understand exactly why we haul all of this craziness around with us.

Because this isn’t just another ice cream trailer to us.

This is our family.
This is our history.
This is generations of tradition.
And this is something we’re incredibly proud of. ❤️

We’ve taken this little family business from town to town across Maine this summer. We’ve had lines that wouldn’t stop, sold out of flavors, met thousands of amazing people and watched our name continue to grow.

Now it’s time to see what happens when we take it outside of Maine. 👀

We don’t know where this crazy adventure is going to take us…

But we’re sure as heck going to find out.

We’re ready to work.

We’re ready for the crowds.

We’re ready to churn A LOT of ice cream. 😂

We’re ready to be seen.

And we’re ready for people hundreds of miles away from home to learn exactly who the McLaughlin Family is. ❤️🍦

Aroostook County — you helped us get here. Every dish you’ve bought, every event you’ve shown up to, every post you’ve shared, every person you’ve told about us… YOU helped our little family business grow.

Now we’re taking a little piece of Northern Maine with us 835 miles down the road. 🥹
