🙏🏼 GOD IS GOOD ❤️ Three months ago, we held our very first Screw Cancer Walk here in Poteet, Texas
When we started planning this event, we had one goal: to turn something painful into something meaningful.
We asked our community to come together, sponsor, donate, volunteer, and help us create scholarships for graduating students pursuing careers in the medical field. Looking back now, it’s incredible to see what we accomplished together.
Cancer changed my life forever. Going through treatment showed me just how important every single person in healthcare truly is. From the nurse who checks your blood pressure, to the technician drawing blood, to the person hanging that bag of chemo and sitting beside you during one of the hardest moments of your life every role matters.
Sometimes the biggest difference isn’t made by medicine.
Sometimes it’s made by a smile.
A simple “hello.”
A conversation when someone is scared and feels alone.
To the students receiving these scholarships: never underestimate the impact you can have on someone’s life. We are praying for each of you and know you’re going to do amazing things in this world.
A very special thank you goes to my brother, Mike, and his wonderful wife, Cindy. ❤️
Mike has been fighting his own battle with cancer and chemotherapy, yet he still poured his heart into helping make this event a reality. Hearing from his family that this event gave him a reason to get out of the house, a purpose, and a spark during a difficult season means more to me than words can express.
Mike, I love you, brother. Thank you for walking this journey beside me. I can’t wait to do it all again next year.
To every sponsor, donor, volunteer, business owner, family member, and supporter who believed in us thank you.
Whether your loved one’s name was displayed on the back of a shirt, whether your business logo helped support the cause, whether you donated a dollar or simply showed up and walked beside us, please know that you made this possible.
We hope we honored your loved ones with dignity, pride, and respect.
The real heroes are not the people standing in front of the camera.
The real heroes are the people who chose to help.
Because of you, students across Atascosa County now have support as they pursue careers dedicated to helping others.
