Let’s talk about GARRY!

Garry Cleveland has been with Lucky Cheetah since before it was a Lucky Cheetah.

One of our very first team members, Garry joined us before the opening stretch of August 2024 and has been on the floor ever since—serving, shift leading, answering questions, reading tables, keeping things moving, and generally making a pretty difficult job look suspiciously easy.

Before joining us, Garry put in serious time around Portland hospitality, from restaurants and craft spirits to bars, music venues, and all the glorious chaos that comes with taking care of people for a living.

The result? Garry knows his craft. Like, really knows it.

He’s polished without being pretentious, professional without being boring, and knowledgeable without making you feel like you’re taking a class. He can talk food, drinks, service, music, Portland, or probably whatever else you’ve got going on—and somehow make you feel like you’ve known him for years.

There are a lot of very good servers in this town. Garry is absolutely one of them.

And we’re pretty damn happy he’s on our team.

Say hi to Garry next time you’re in. He’ll probably already know what you need.

That stone wall running through Lucky Cheetah’s dining room? It’s ~350 years old.

Built in the late 1700s as Portland’s original sea wall, it held back the Atlantic for 150 years, with boats reaching all the way up to Fore Street — until the waterfront was expanded and filled to create Wharf St, Commercial St, and the railways that moved goods off the port.

In 1828, the first building on that new land used the old wall as its foundation. A Greek Revival structure modeled after Faneuil Hall, it housed the Portland Company below and the Mariner’s Church on top. It survived the Great Fire of 1866 and later became home to industrial and cultural landmarks — including Daniel Colesworthy’s print shop, which published Robert Benjamin Lewis’s “Light and Truth from Ancient and Sacred History” in 1836, tying the building to the anti-slavery movement.

Today, the wall stands preserved in our dining room — you can still spot the high tide line, where stones above sit lighter and better-preserved than those once submerged. During renovation, it was re-pointed, deep-cleaned, and protected so its history lives on!
