It's been a bit since we stopped baking and selling our cakes. But, in our downtime, given our non stop effort to create the healthiest foods for our family, we came up with a recipe for the most delicious soft, flatbread that is gluten, dairy, sugar, trans fat and grain free. It's also 100% organic.

I am considering the possibility of taking them to market provided I can navigate the many hurdles that prevent small food startups from being profitable.

We are closing down.

We could blame Covid.

We could blame the supply chain issues that now prevent us from getting shipments of take out containers.

We could blame the outrageous cost of everything that prevents many small businesses from every turning a profit while providing a fair price to purchase.

We could blame our mission to create a super healthy snack and never relent or compromise on ingredients.

We could blame the hardship many small companies have trying to hire people and staff a small operation that can't provide all the benefits one deserves.

We can cite these as issues but we're not making them the culprit. The truth is, our family has run out of steam trying over come every obstacle. We don't view this as a fail. We learned so much in the process and developed a killer cake recipe as well.

The good news is we have a ton of cake so we will give some of it away and eat the rest.

Thank you to everyone who supported us. We hope our products brought you some joy.

Update:

Over the last few months we have been working on our many things in preparation of a relaunching. We have finalized our new branding and packaging. We've also been working on our new website with a focus on making the ordering of our cakes from any part of the country possible without costing our customers an arm and a leg.

Lastly, we have finalized the five flavors(cake and frosting) we are going to re-introduce at launch. These include:

Vanilla Vanilla
Orange Vanilla
Mint Chocolate
Raspberry Tart (w/ vanilla cake)
Chocolate Chocolate.

We will be open to custom orders and working through how to make that easy for you through our website.

Here's a sneak peak of the new label - the part that will be on the lid. The cup design is still being finalized and we'll present that here within the next week.

One thing has never changed - our commitment to health is unrelenting. For an ingredient to make it inside our product it needs to meet an almost impossible criteria but the most important of which is that it cannot cause inflammation.

Ingredients that cause inflammation lead to illness. We believe food is medicine and while our food should delight our taste buds, what we eat must make our cells sparkle with life and energy.

Hello Friends of Heartfelt.

We've missed you all and hope you are all doing ok.

Many of you have messaged us over the year asking about our status. Thank you all for that.

Here's an update.

First, we are all healthy and Covid free. We take every precaution possible, follow the science, wear masks, wash hands and keep our distance. We eat well, take a lot of Vitamin D and keep ourselves as spiritually grounded and positive as possible.

Covid has impacted our company as it has on many small, specialty, food companies. All of our retail outlets closed. Most are out of business. Portland, where we are based, has faced one disaster after another. Riots. Looting. Greedy landlords. Stay at home orders. A dysfunctional, local government. Unemployment. And more.

But we are not quitters.

Throughout the fall & early winter, we began to experiment with an alternative idea.

CAKE IN A CUP.

It's the same cake, the same frosting stacked inside a 6oz plant based container. (Not plastic).

As the universe would have it, one of our retailers - Urban Pantry - reopened. They asked for cakes and took a few of our cups. Then a few more. And then more. Today, we can't keep their shelves stocked fast enough.

Inspired, we are now preparing to relaunch with an assortment of vanilla and chocolate cakes in combination with different flavored frostings, flavored with natural, non GMO, pure fruit oil such as lemon oil, lime oil, mint oil, orange oil.

Same product. Same attention to the best quality, whole food products on the market.

Our new site is close to launching. New branding forthcoming.

We're going to give this another shot.

We package our frosting and Hazelnut spread in glass bottles as part of our effort to reduce and eradicate needless packaging waste.

These glass bottles contain the finest, cleanest, healthiest and most sustainably farmed ingredients possible. They are crafted and blended to create a delicious and non- inflammatory delicacy.

Every batch is made in our gluten free kitchen, in small batches and packaged by people who care about what we make and what you eat.

We use organic, Non-GM0, Fair Trade and responsibly grown ingredients including our palm shortening.

Of course, you can order our cakes as well but our frosting and spread can be ordered separately.

Mom loves to scoop a tablespoon of frosting and plate it with her favorite organic chocolate.

Dad loves to apply the hazelnut spread and frosting to his paleo and gluten free waffles. We're sure you'll find many other ways to enjoy our healthy treats.

Health, it's on all of our minds.

Health inspired our company and the products we make. It also influenced us in other ways. Here's a few practices we take as a family to maintain ours.

1. Vitamin D from sunlight. I shoot for 10,000 IU's a day. I use DMinder to measure the amount and mitigate overexposure. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/d-minder-pro/id547102495. I've been using this for 2 years. No sunburn ever. It alerts you when your sun session is compete. I don't use sun protection creams. Most are chemical based that seep directly into your bloodstream. Once I get enough sun, I'll wear a cap, long sleeve shirt or stay in the shade.

2. Eight hours of sleep. After my diagnosis, it was critical I get a good night sleep. It wasn't easy but I found a great hack. I take 500 mg's of magnesium before bed. I also limit my exposure to blue light after sundown. At home I wear blue blockers. This is the brand we buy. www.raoptics.com

3. Drink Beet Powder. It's great for heart health, improves blood pressure, increases endurance, reduces cholesterol and many other benefits. 5. Daily exercise. We invested in bands, yoga mats and signed up with trainers who have online sessions. I also try and get 15,000 steps a day. Early morning, midday and after dinner.

It's estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic swimming in our oceans than fish.

We're trying to do our part to stop that from happening. So as of now we are packing all of our frosting in glass jars and use cellophane for all our cakes.

We are now completely plastic free.
