We are heartbroken to announce that Tails & Trotters has closed.
After weathering a devastating fire in 2017 and the past 2 years of COVID, the sudden loss of key infrastructure makes it impossible for us to effectively operate. In conjunction with skyrocketing costs at every level, we have decided to suspend all operations while we figure out our next steps.
Saturday, July 9 will be our final day at the Portland Farmers Market at PSU. Our ham & salami will continue to be available at Cooperativa Market, Market of Choice locations, and a number of restaurants in the Portland area – including Hunnymilk, Pizzaria Otto, Sugarpine Drive-In and more.
We will be hosting a “Christmas in July” ham pick up at our shop Saturday, July 23! Our hams freeze wonderfully, and we’ll have all 3 sizes of boneless hams available. Details will be posted in the coming weeks.
Tails & Trotters was established in 2007 with the modest goal of creating world-class prosciutto reflective of the Pacific Northwest. In 2017 our Prosciutto Pacifico won a Good Food Award (1 of 5 over the years) and our shop was featured on Diner’s Drive-ins & Dives – just weeks before an electrical fire destroyed the shop and wiped out 3 years’ prosciutto production. After a year rebuilding, the redesigned shop reopened and had finally regained momentum when the pandemic descended in early 2020.
Throughout all the trials & tribulations, the one constant has been our supportive customers! Whether individual retail customers or another business, you have kept us going during the cloudy heavy times and your enthusiasm kept us continually inspired to create new delicious products to enjoy from our hazelnut-finished pigs.
None of this would have been possible without our staff. Good people can be hard to find, especially in an industry known for its churn, and we’ve been fortunate to work with so many, and so many for lengthy periods of time.
Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed our food these past 15 years. Delicious good food is our love language, and it’s been immensely gratifying to have shared this with you.
