❤️ Chaval is almost 10 years old.

About 15 years ago, Ilma López and Damian Sansonetti came to Portland with big dreams and a love for bringing people together through food.

Ilma brought her Spanish culinary background and passion for pastry. Damian brought his French culinary background. Together, they created something that felt like both of them.

Almost 10 years later, Chaval has become so much more than a restaurant. It’s a family made up of every cook, server, bartender, dishwasher, pastry chef, manager, and team member who has been part of this place over the years. ❤️

And, of course, all of you.

Our regulars. Our neighbors. The people celebrating birthdays and anniversaries with us. The visitors discovering Chaval for the first time. And everyone who keeps coming back.

Looking through these photos reminds us that Chaval has always been about the people.
