To all my wonderful supporters it saddens me and makes me happy to announce that the end of chapter of having our Downtown Coffee Cart will be closing as of this weekend.
I feel that the business would be better focused on the 3 shops of PSU and SE Clinton. I will share the story of the cart at Alder.
May 2nd 2012 I opened the cart at NE 19th and Everett and during that time it was an opportunity for me to get my feet wet with the whole idea of what I wanted to do with it. I worked 7 days a week from 6:30- 5:30 M-F and 8-3 on Saturday, I closed on Sunday for maintenance and resupply. I went on a mini 5 day trip were I asked Hank to cover for me while I was gone (our relationship formed). I did very little sales there maybe 20-30 per day at best. I got the opportunity to go on the set of Grimm for 10 days with the cart to be used in the show and got the chance to have a nice paid break. When the shoot was over and it was time to come back the rain started falling and the customers didn't really come back. I had to make a tough choice and relocated to a temporary spot with my friend John at SE Clinton for the winter months while I waited for a call to come downtown. We got the call on December 15th for locations at SW Alder along with my friend John that owns Picnic that took a location at SW 3rd Avenue. I moved the cart in the dead of winter January 1st and we kicked things off right with making our way into the downtown foodcart scene and immediately started seeing results with media press, sales and good traffic with tourism. The sales worked in our favor and I felt that I would expand with a second cart (PSU) with the last of my reserves to go "ALL IN". Hank and a few key staff covered the shop while I built out the second one. Alder cart sustained incomes gave us and great opportunity for name recognition and we learned so much by being there. I am so grateful for the opportunity of the cart at Alder but as things change we need to align our business plans for what would be best suited for the company. I am now Happy to announce in the next couple weeks we are going to have a new location for you to come visit at SE 1410 Clinton Street, Portland Or.
