One Heckuva ride
Owning a business is hard.
Owning a family business is even harder.
And because of that difficulty— after lots of prayer and discussion— Jeroen and I have decided to close up shop.
We will be having a going-out-of-business sale for our retail items beginning Nov 3 and our last day open will be November 19th. Stay posted for all the details.
There will be talk. And some will say we failed… but we tried!! And we LOVED. EVERY. MOMENT. OF. IT.
And gossip is just gossip, but to quote Brene Brown, (and excuse the language) “If you are not in the arena getting your ass kicked on occasion, I am not interested in or open to your feedback.” If you get a chance to read the whole statement, please do. It’s so good.
We could discuss all the circumstances of this very heavy decision, but instead I want to celebrate all the wonderful things that came out of our short time in Portales.
1. Our customers- we had such a great time meeting so many new people, learning their stories and visiting with our favorites who became regulars. A huge thanks to to all the airmen, military spouses, those in ag production, tourists, ENMU faculty and students and countless others who made this job so fun! Thank you for letting us serve you!
2. Our employees- just like most businesses in a college town, we had many employees and really enjoyed learning the ins and outs of hiring and managing within a retail and restaurant space. Many of these employees made work fun and brought personalities to the workspace that made The Milkshed what it is— a cozy, comfortable atmosphere where everyone is welcome.
3. The community- a huge shoutout to the Portales Chamber of Commerce and those businesses who were constantly rooting for us and wanted to see not only us succeed but the growth of Portales as well. We look forward to continuing these businesses who were so supportive of us: Garden Source, Creighton’s, Enchantment Winery, Ace Hardware and Taco Box.
We have had a wonderful time and hope we leave you with great memories from The Milkshed that won’t be soon forgotten.
We want to send a sincere thank you to those who have supported The Milkshed through the most stressful time economically to own a business, we will forever be grateful.
Although we are saddened, we are so grateful for the opportunity to focus on our family and marriage and prioritize God’s plans for us. Our kiddos are still young and we’re going to soak up as much time as possible with them.
I don't know what the future may hold, but I know WHO holds the future. -Ralph Abernathy
