THE COMITY BUZZ IS CLOSED FOR GOOD.
For the 500+ fans of The Comity Buzz, we regret to have to inform you that we will not be re-opening. Our purpose in opening the coffee shop was to create a place with "comity" (a friendly social atmosphere) and I think we succeeded in doing that. It gives us great pleasure to remember the last two years, we met new friends and hung out on the deck during the summer or huddled together with a warm cup of coffee in the "living room" during the winter. Movie nights, game nights, after hours shenanigans and a little to much during-hours shenanigans will all be fond memories for us.
Wendi and I made so many new friends, collaborated with some long-time friends and made memories that we will always treasure at The Comity Buzz. Unfortunately, the cost, maintenance and attention required to keep the place open just got to be too much.
To Tony, Jaime, Eddie, Terry, Tracy, Al, Scottie, D Love, Miranda, Left, Alex, MED, Eric V., Allie, Jesse, Robbie, Brandon, Kirsten, Brian, Hollie, Ryan, Logan, Tickles, Audrey, Anna and Jason: It was a pleasure to work with you. You guys made a great team and an even better latte. We'll miss the training meetings that usually descended into mayhem and more shenanigans.
To Pinky, Brain, Grace, Cheeseburger, Fries, Shake, Aaron, Ritalin, Vogue, Carolina, Tickles, Storm, Cody, Travo, Cede, Chance, Diamond, Payton, Abby L, TMFI guy, Ryan O, Richard, movie theater/short straw guy, colada mamma, Matt and Angie, Sandy, Sara and Aaron, Don and Peggy, Remission, the Unemployed Architects, Heroic Charade, Rod X and the rest of our loyal regulars: You're crazy and we love it. We may not have had a ton of customers, but the customers we did have are an awesome bunch of people.
To the Pontiac PROUD organization, the City of Pontiac and the GLCEDC: We regret that our enterprise didn't become a long-lasting establishment in the downtown. It's a beautiful downtown and you've all made tremendous contribution in making it so. We appreciated the assistance offered and provided. We tried dilligently to match that assistance with personal sacrifice and commitment to honor your contribution and we can only hope that our existence in the downtown will in some way contribute to the continued improvement of downtown Pontiac.
To the officers who frequented our establishment in the evening hours when a kid ran away or there was a ruckus (can you describe the "ruckus"?) or simply when Grace was there: Thank you for your dilligence and patience. We respect the difficult and important job you do.
Special thanks go to:
Tony for teaching all of us how to make amazing coffee (and how to work with your eyes closed while snoring in the comfy chair) Seriously, you will always be the Coffee King to me.
Eddie B whose super-mechanical talents helped us build a fantastic, smooth-running coffee shop (and Logan who came by every day after school to help)
Jaime for breathing life, personality and enjoyment into the experience of visiting the coffee shop
Scottie and D Love for lending their electronics and experience to the atmosphere and infrastructure
Dad (Nick) whose paintings graced every wall
This experience changed our lives and we'll forever be grateful.
Sincerely,
Paul and Wendi Birkett
