That about does it for the season. I had hoped to go one or two more weeks, but an electrical problem led me to close a little early. We were starting to hit 32 degrees (the machines don’t like that) so our days were numbered anyway. Thanks so much to everyone! You guys should feel really good that Pittsfield can support a sidewalk café’ and you were part of that effort. It was great fun to see people getting creative: Maple-Pumpkin Lattes, Chai-Pumpkin Lattes, Caramel-Espresso, Coconut Lemonade and so on. Café’ goers also bought a bunch of my books, which I appreciate! I never thought the books would sell so well, but they did, and it’s thanks to you. With 80% of titles controlled by only five publishing companies, it’s important that we look outside of the mainstream for books. I have some exciting news on this front. I was admitted to a writers residency in Prague next July! My screenplay, which is medieval comedy, attracted some attention so this will give me some dedicated time to work on it with professionals. I guess as our society gets more grim (televised executions, anyone?) maybe folks are looking for escapist comedies. Who knows… again, thanks to all of my customers, and for sharing your stories with me! Courthouse staff are walking a hard road, and we, in the community, are thankful that you are there to do this critical work. Until next year, when the Coffee and Justice Tour will launch once again.

The 2026 Coffee and Justice Tour at Poseidon is wrapping up soon. I think we made it to the 3rd week of Oct. last year, but hey, we gotta try. I'm shooting for Nov. 1st as a closing date, however it does depend on weather. Once we start hitting 32 degrees, that will be it unfortunately. Anyway, we're going out with a bang! We have some beautiful new coffees coming at you strong. We're running the Barrington Coffee Gold right now for espresso, which always impresses me with the crema' and that nice light complex color (as the name suggests). Definitely has an interesting taste profile. Try a shot straight to see what I mean. The Pumpkin Lattes have been selling like wildfire. So glad people are enjoying them. It is a nice mild product, doesn't overwhelm you with spice but gives you that great warm background flavor with the espresso laying over the top. Folks are also ordering up the hot c***r fresh from the orchards. That's a seasonal favorite, for sure. That's all the news that's fit to print, for now, see ya at the courthouse,

My daughter is home sick today so the sidewalk cafe' will be closed Friday, Sept. 18th. Sorry for any inconvenience. We have a great new pumpkin latte I'm excited for everyone to try next week. We also have hot c***r now and, of course, the coconut lemonade!

Woke up to the pitter patter of raindrops. Was hoping it was just a shower but my phone says heavy rain all morning, so the kiosk will be closed today, Tuesday. Back in action tomorrow, Wednesday.

Looks like the camp schedule is throwing me for a loop again. Will have to be a 9:45 am opening Tues-Fri this week. Summer mayhem continues! By the time summer is over, I'll have this thing down pat. The crowd favorites seem to be: Iced Vietnamese Coffee, Iced Dirty Chai, Iced Matcha Latte and the Iced Maple Latte continues to be a hit. We also have a coconut lemonade now, which is quite refreshing.

Today/Wednesday, looks like a rain-out unfortunately so the kiosk will be closed. But tomorrow is forecast to just be a drizzle during the morning, so I should be back at it Thursday. I know we needed the rain, with water tables low, and near drought conditions, but it sure is soggy out there!
Very soon we will start serving cold drinks in the compostable paper cups. I think it's going to work, but we will try it out and see what customers think. As mentioned in a previous post, I went down the rabbit-hole on packaging research and the environment. The research was imperfect (mainly due to "trade-secrets" among companies), but I came away with two ambitions at least: 1) Search for a product that is 'home-compostable' in the future, in other words, you could throw it in your home compost bin (no industrial setup needed), and 2) Stick with the BPI certified paper cups, over the corn starch clear "plastic" ones, mainly because the cold cups tend to have endocrine disrupting chemicals added to the mix; at least paper is a renewable resource and BPI claims the dirt comes out clean.
So, let me know what you think. I believe the cups will hold up. It also means sipping-lids and no straws, which is an added bonus. If you can swing it, feel free to bring your reusable cup down.
Next batch of coffee will be Vienna for the dark roast and Mocha Java for the light. For a light roast, the Java is surprisingly full-bodied, which I love. And the Vienna is just a big robust taste that might just transport you to a European sidewalk cafe'. Great stuff.

p.s. pro-tip: Add a shot of espresso to a mocha java--you get that espresso pop with a mellow light roast underneath it all.

The sidewalk cafe' will be closed for 4th of July week. Enjoy the holiday everyone! Fire up those grills, visit with family and take a much needed break. It's supposed to be sweltering, so hopefully you can find a cool spot and refresh. I'm planning on a little tubing with my daughter, and who knows, maybe someone will even serve me a cup of coffee one morning! That would be fun. Tuesday, July 7th we will be back in action with some nice black oily beans to turbo charge the legal system. Next up, is probably Kenya and Rainbow Roast. The Kenya has this really nice hint of w**e, which some people think they won't like, but trust me, it grows on you. I like to drink that one black. The Rainbow is a big powerful blend, a nice early morning coffee when you really need something. That's all the news that's fit to print. Oh, a final note, I found a tiramisu syrup, caught my eye. I may just have to try that one--for folks with a sweet tooth, be on the lookout. Open today 6/26 despite the drizzle, so stop by if you are in the neighborhood.

Summer is here! We've had a nice blend of sun and rain--everything is looking green in the Berkshires. Some schedule notes: I have camp pick-up duty for my daughter in July and August so I will have to step out from 10:40-11:20 on Fridays. I'll leave a note on the door. Sorry for any inconvenience. Otherwise, normal hours. Today, I'm heading to a last day of school flute recital, so I will have to leave at noon. Summer madness is here. Looking forward to blasting out some cold and creamy caffeinated drinks to help you power through your day.
