The construction on Penn Avenue is at our front door step. Close enough that we had to net the garden. A line of protection between our soil and the work happening just outside the door. What grows in those beds has a direct path to the plate. Protecting it was not a question.

The same person who tends that garden also runs the Pittsburgh County Fair, which tells you everything you need to know about who he is. It is a celebration of urban agriculture, local food, and everything handmade and homegrown in Pittsburgh. Fourth year in. September 12th at Allegheny Commons Park West, 11am to 5pm.

If you care about where food comes from, this is your kind of afternoon.
