Original owner, Peter Valliant, who emigrated from Greece in 1950, opened the diner with his wife, Helen, on his son’s 12th birthday, December 13, 1968. Initially called Valliant’s Dairy, Peter and Helen converted a small house into a restaurant and convenience store, which still remains at its original location along the busy commercial district of Babcock Boulevard. Their son, Gerri, helped out at the diner from a young age, eventually taking over the family business in November of 1995. After undergoing a complete renovation a few months later, Valliant’s Diner opened as a bright and shiny ‘50s era diner, complete with sparkling neon lights, gleaming stainless steel, cool turquoise and yellow booths, and hot pink accents. Customers have even added to the eclectic décor by providing Valliant’s with their own cherished Marilyn Monroe posters, vintage model cars, black-and-white photos from the fifties, and assorted diner memorabilia. Valliant’s has also had its share of fame over the years. Numerous commercials have been filmed at the diner, most notably the 2006 Disney Super Bowl commercial featuring Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The diner has also been the setting for several scenes of an MTV short film and the 3D movie My Bloody Valentine. One of the longest-standing restaurants in the area, Valliant’s Diner has been serving customers delicious breakfasts and a variety of sandwiches, burgers, and salads, as well as homemade soups and daily specials. Gerri continues to keep the Valliant tradition alive that Pete began over 50 years ago.

Cooks Wanted — All Experience Levels Welcome
Valliant’s is a classic Pittsburgh diner where the same faces show up on both sides of the counter, week after week, and where a good cook can call the morning rush before it even hits. We’re under new ownership aiming to keep the tradition of quality food at a fair price in an inviting atmosphere alive.

We need cooks! Whether you’re a seasoned pro who’s ready to jump on the line in the weekend rush, or totally new to the industry, we only require you to be reliable, accountable, hard-working, and willing to learn.

We’ll teach you the rest. Start on prep, learn the rhythm, and pay & responsibility will grow right along with you.

Pay: $10–$25/hour, depending on experience level

Schedule: Part-time and full-time available. We’re open 6am–2pm, so your evenings are yours. We’re closed most major holidays. Weekend availability (or at least being on-call for weekends) is especially important to us.

To apply: Drop us a DM or Email [email protected] with your resume, your availability, and the hours you’re hoping to work.

For over five decades, Valliant’s Diner has been much more than a restaurant. It is a place to gather, share a meal, catch up with friends, and make memories. Most importantly, it is a place where customers become family.

Since 1968, the Valliant family has had the privilege of welcoming you through our doors. My father, Peter Valliant, opened Valliant’s Dairy on my 12th birthday, and I have had the pleasure of carrying on his legacy since 1995.

Valliant’s Diner is transitioning to new ownership.

While this marks a new chapter, we want to reassure you that the things you love about Valliant’s are not going away. The new ownership is committed to preserving the diner’s traditions, its welcoming atmosphere, and the sense of family that has made this place so special for generations. Valliant’s will continue to be Valliant’s.

For me, this transition also means the beginning of a new chapter. After 31 years of managing the diner, I’m looking forward to retirement and, most of all, spending more time with my family and turning on the grill… only when I want to!

Leaving the day-to-day life of the diner is certainly bittersweet. Valliant’s has been such a big part of my life, and I will miss seeing so many familiar faces. I am happy knowing that the diner is moving forward in caring hands and that the Valliant’s legacy will continue.

To every customer who has supported us since 1968 and to those who have joined our family along the way, thank you! You have supported our family for generations, and we will always be grateful.

So please keep grabbing a stool, finding your favorite table, and walking through those doors with the same feeling you always have.

Here’s to the next chapter of Valliant’s Diner and to many more years of good food, good friends, and family!

Thank you,

Gerri Peter Valliant
