DINING CRITIC HAL B. KLEIN | One of the first stories I wrote when I joined the Post-Gazette four years ago was a roundup of some of my favorite ice cream shops. Every year since, I’ve added to the list of tasty treats — or, as a few of my pals like to say, tight scoops — covering everywhere from Pittsburgh and its suburbs to spots in Beaver and Westmoreland counties.

I figured it would be fun to highlight a few of my all-time favorites this time. You’ll find bespoke gelato, mission-driven experimental flavors that always seem to work and a few Pittsburgh classics. This is where I would go if I were eating ice cream every day for a week (and one day twice because we should all do that at least once per summer).
