Let’s make some history!

Kin and friends are invited to the first annual Wiley Oakley Day celebration, September 11–12, 2026, honoring the “Roamin’ Man of the Mountains.”

Friday, September 11 — 10:00 AM
Gatlinburg City Hall
1230 East Parkway

Mayor Mike Werner will read the proclamation declaring September 12 as Wiley Oakley Day in the City of Gatlinburg.

Saturday, September 12 — 10:15 AM
Mynatt Park
622 Airport Road

Celebrate Wiley’s birthday with proclamation excerpts read by Penny Oakley Ellis, Tommy Oakley, and Mary Phillips, a memorial plaque dedication at the tulip poplar tree, and personal remembrances. Anyone with a memory to share is invited to speak.

Saturday, September 12 — 11:30 AM
Noah “Bud” Ogle Cabin and Barn
1486 Cherokee Orchard Road

The celebration continues with Wiley’s stories and history, beginning on the cabin porch. Hear about Wiley and Rebecca’s wedding in the room where it happened, the Weaner cabin where they spent their first night as husband and wife, and the “Cow Barn” tale.

The gathering will conclude around 12:30–1:00 PM.

Bring your family, share your memories, and help keep Wiley’s stories alive. Please share with kin and friends who would enjoy being there!
