It is with BIG BIG pride and an immense sense of gratitude that we can now finally announce that the little sushi place inside the golf warehouse that was serving sushi on plastic trays got voted the best sushi, and second best asian cuisine in Best of Southern Oregon.
What's even more impressive than achieving this in our first 7 months of operation(we got the news back in April, we just couldn't tell anyone)... is the support that we have received, beyond family and friends, the fact that since day one( and currently)new faces keep coming in and showing love/support and leaving happy with kind words is truly an amazing feeling, greater than being told you're the best at something because what even means to be "the best"?.. I can honestly say that even better than being told you're the best at something is living out your dreams because really I'm just a kid with a dream, and that dream has always been to make people happy, with a little fish and a little rice, and if you were kind enough to come support my dream back when we were serving sushi out of plastic trays, before we busted out the handcrafted ceramics, before we installed a sink, and bar stools, before we started flying in fish from japan and opening caviar accounts, and doing residencies with James Beard nominated chefs, when it was just me, and there was days in which only two people came, days in which nobody came(very much a reality) if you were kind enough to give me a chance and in turn you left happy with what you received, then I was able to live out my dream and that's what I intend to keep doing, making people happy with a little fish and a little rice, the kid from mexico with tattoos on his face, doing the most authentic take on true japanese sushi in southern oregon, the kid that on his first day of his first ever job, flipping burgers at sonic drive-in kept telling himself "one day I'll be a sushi chef", dish washer at a retirement home "one day I'll be a sushi chef", caregiver at an assisted living facility, assembling cabinets at master brand, fullfilling orders at a contact lenses warehouse, building roof trusses, cleaning sheet rock scrap at jobs for my step dad's dry wall company, stocking shelves at walmart, pumping gas at circle K, "ONE DAY I'LL BE A SUSHI CHEF" What an incredibly rewarding feeling this is, the kid that never stopped believing in his dream until it became a reality, thank you Southern Oregon for giving that kid a chance to live out his dreams, I absolutely 10000000000% can't thank you all enough for chosing Tani.
