We have arrived in Placer Bonito and unloaded our luggage and will be staying in the newly constructed Community Center. The funding for the center was provided by so many generous project donors and has had an incredible impact on the physical, spiritual, social and economic health in Placer Bonito. Later that afternoon we held a dedication ceremony for the center, attended by community and government leaders.

Continuing on our virtual trip, our team has checked into our hotel in Santo Domingo. We are enjoying dinner with the Food for the Hungry staff in a restaurant in the Colonial City district. A restful evening at the hotel and then we are off to Placer Bonito early Saturday morning. Can't wait to meet our friends again!

Showing the love of Jesus Christ is what we do and the following video link is an example of the sincere love we have for the people in Placer Bonito. This year we combined the Construction Team and Medical Team into one team. The Construction Team’s major construction project on this trip was 10 latrines. The Medical Team held medical, dental, and vision clinics, along with health and hygiene training. The team also provided Bible studies for men and women, VBS classes for children and visited homes and sponsored children.

Deep truth here. The essence of culture shock (better understood as culture stress - a prolonged rather than sudden process) is when the things that are difficult to see in another culture collide with my own cultural assumptions.

You might wonder if you can you make a difference in a child’s life this Christmas? The answer is, YOU can! Child Sponsorship gives YOU the opportunity to bring hope into the life of a child by showing them someone cares and loves them.

By sponsoring a child with your monthly pledge of $35 you will help meet the critical needs of the child you sponsor as well as other children in the community.

By sponsoring a child in Placer Bonito, YOU will bless that child by….
• Helping provide for their education in the local school and Bible based teaching through the AMO Program
• Providing life-changing training for parents on how to care for their children, which will impact the development of a child and empower the child to influence the next generation
• Communicating the value and potential God has given them• Increasing parent and community leaders involvement in promoting and monitoring the children in school
• Providing community health, nutrition and sanitation projects that create a safe environment where children thrive
• Providing access to clean water to drink
• Offering lasting hope and a brighter future for a child living in extreme poverty

And, YOU will be blessed with…..
• The knowledge that YOU stepped in to help end poverty in the life of a child
• The opportunity to communicate directly with the child you sponsor
• Updated photos of the child and prayer requests from the community
• Important reports of progress in the country where your sponsored child lives
• Through your support, letters and prayers, you and your sponsored child build a relationship that makes a lasting difference

We have just returned from an incredible trip to the DR and Haiti assessing the needs of hospitals in El Cercado and Elias Pina, Dominican Republic, and Belladere, Haiti, with Project CURE and Food for the Hungry staff. For me, my eyes were really opened to not only the medical needs of the communities in these areas, but the lack of equipment and supplies at the hospitals to meet those needs.

One of our experiences was an example of how God's timing is perfect. Over the past 2-3 years the DR government has been doing a lot of infrastructure projects in the country (e.g., schools, roads, parks). One of those projects has been to expand and improve the hospitals in the country. However, these improvements only include brick and mortar construction projects and not equipment infrastructure. The hospitals are setting there with newly constructed rooms and even hospital "wings", but no equipment for the rooms. Perfect timing! The hospital administrators were ecstatic that they will be able to have the equipment they need, in addition to replacing existing equipment that is inoperative (which is most of their equipment).

Over a span of two days we did an assessment at three hospitals, met with the Regional Ministry of Health Director in the DR, an administrator from the Ministry of Health in Haiti, two hospital administrators in the DR and numerous doctors.

From the assessment there will be a need for three containers of equipment (one at each hospital). At this point two containers are funded (one through Dignity Health and the other through Major League Baseball). We will need funding for the third container of equipment and supplies ($17,500). If you have an interest in helping fund this container, please let me know ASAP! All three containers represent $1.5M in equipment and supplies!!

I recently had a chance to speak with an amazing man named Doug Geist. He’s the team leader of the “Sweathawgs,” a men’s ministry of about 20 people from Mesa, Arizona.
