Thanks Center City District for helping to keep Drury Street clean. We'll be all shiny for Open Streets Midtown Village in the Gayborhood this afternoon from 2-10 p.m. The whole neighborhood will be car-free and full of live music and activities and at McGillin's we'll have an OUTSIDE Cafe on Drury Lane with:

For Father's Day, honoring the OG dad, William "Pa" McGillin, who opened McGillin's in 1860 and whose family ran the bar for 3 generations, Brothers Joe & Henry who bought the bar in 1958 and whose family has been running the bar for 3 generations, and the many hard-working dads who followed in their footsteps working here over the years. Or drinking here over the decades. And raising a glass to all those dads out there -- whether nearby, across the world or having a sip with Pa in heaven.🍺

"Classic old school pub with history and genuine bar vibes! Came to Philly on vacation and had heard so much about this place due to it being touted as the oldest running bar in the city. It did not disappoint. Really it can be said this is the epitome of what a pub should look and feel like. Service was friendly and personable. We love to sit at the bar and the bartenders were talkative and hilarious. The buffalo wings were cooked to perfection. A must stop when in town!

We love the way WHYY connects its viewers to the community with great storytelling (including about Philly's oldest bar!). We were thrilled to participate in the station's fund drive and flattered that the station gave away McGillin's swag (like tote bags, beer-scented candles & our book) as pledge gifts.

William "Pa" McGillin was born in June 1827. He grew up in Glenroan Townland, Plumbridge District, County Tyrone, in what is now Northern Ireland. He immigrated to the United States during the Great Potato Famine, likely landing in New York on April 19, 1850.

He worked as a shoemaker or bootmaker for his first 10 years in America. Luckily for future Philadelphians, in 1860 he became a barkeep, throwing open the doors of his tavern and making history. 🍻
