Story Time.

Long before it became a fixture in the front window of Gabriella’s Vietnam, this little red scooter was a working machine with miles of stories behind it.

It was purchased during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic to make quick deliveries for our previous restaurant, Melody’s Vietnam, in Ambler, Pennsylvania. At a time when dining rooms were empty and delivery orders kept the lights on, this 160cc scooter became part of the daily grind — and it sure did a heck of a job.

The last breaths that this scooter took was on its first and only cruise from Ambler into the city. Not by highway—but the long way. Through Plymouth Meeting. Through Conshohocken. Along the winding hills of Gladwyne. Down Kelly Drive and into Center City.

It was a beautiful ride.

Then, just as it rounded the curve onto the Avenue of the Arts on S Broad, the scooter sputtered, coughed, and died.

Right there.

Right in front of City Hall.

During rush hour.

For most people, that would have been the end of the story.

For this scooter, it was only the beginning.

Afterward, the bright red bike found a permanent home in the front window of Gabriella’s Vietnam. It wasn’t there merely as decoration—it was a tribute to Vietnam itself, where motorbikes and scooters are woven into everyday life and culture. Night after night, while the dining room filled with guests, the scooter sat quietly by the window, watching service unfold. A silent witness to thousands of meals, celebrations, conversations, and memories. Not to mention all the press, media, accolades…

So yes, there is a story behind this little red scooter.

It played a role in Melody’s Vietnam.

It played a role in Gabriella’s Vietnam.

And now, after years of sitting still, it’s on its way to the shop to be brought back to life.

Its engine may have been sleeping, but its story isn’t over.

A new chapter is about to begin—and this little red scooter is about to discover a new purpose.
