Many thanks to Jae (aka the hoagie whisperer) at Farina Di Vita for hosting this fantastic brisket hoagie collab last night and to for both helping on the line and taking these great pictures. I think we might have to do it again…

The Oct 10 pop up at The Mermaid Inn during the Chestnut Hill farmers market is canceled due to staffing but we hope to have a new date soon. In the meantime our weekly breakfast taco collab at Taco Heart in S. Philly is still every Friday and will soon be at the new Ardmore location too. Stay tuned for other events.

Nice to see everyone at The Mermaid Inn last night. Stay tuned for a few other upcoming events on Sept 13 at Future Days B**r Company and Sept 28 at Farina Di Vita 🦅

Smoked Salmon Tostada. Whole side of Atlantic salmon from that we cure and hot smoke and serve on a fried and salted Tortilleria San Roman corn tortilla with fresh avocado, pickled red onion, crema, cilantro, and lime and pickled jalapeños on the side. Something lighter and with pescatarians and gluten-free folks in mind, alongside brisket à la carte, chopped brisket sandwiches on Baker Street Bread Co brioche buns, and creamy potato salad with roasted poblano (v).

Making its debut Saturday evening at The Mermaid Inn. Bar and food open at 6, band at 8, kitchen open till 8:30 or sold out.

This Friday Aug 14 we’ll be back inside The Mermaid Inn (est. 1734, rebuilt 1913) with a simple limited menu of brisket à la carte, chopped brisket sandwiches, and creamy potato salad with bacon and roasted poblano followed by local band again. Doors and food from 6 pm - sellout, band at 8 (bar open 6 - close). This has been our home base for 5 years now, but we’re usually outside during the Chestnut Hill Farmers' Market once a month (where we’ll be next weekend Sat Aug 22 with our full menu and staff). We’re planning to serve food inside the Mermaid one evening every other weekend going forward along with our weekly breakfast taco collab at Taco Heart every Friday and other events.

“Compensate for the lack of feasting in Nolan’s Odyssey. Go to Perla and grasp your lechon like Odysseus did when he landed on Ithaca’s shores and went to Eumaeus the swineherd’s cottage, before he continued on home. Seek after North by Texas, the roving barbecue pop-up, just as Odysseus’ men held out until they could no longer and barbecued one of Apollo’s herd. Order a porchetta from Esposito’s or Porco’s Porchetteria and have all your friends over. Look for Le Virtù’s whole roasted goat, inhale the remnants of smoke, dig in with your hands. Grab yourself a cheesecake, imagine it to be Circe’s ‘kukion,’ drizzle it with honey, and wash it down with wine.”

Nolan's interpretation is visually arresting, but not when it comes to food. Our food reporter, who is also a classics scholar, tells us how to watch the movie and dine like a hero.
