Congratulations to two incredible human beings on tying the knot, JP and Emily Sheidell! 🤍

It was a true honor to be part of your special day and to create a cocina de humo experience for your family and friends.

What made this celebration so meaningful was being welcomed into your family home and experiencing the beautiful tradition you share of growing food together. Seeing Dawn’s excitement over her first place butternut squash, and all the ribbons won for growing beautiful produce, hearing JP share his passion for growing peppers, and learning about all these type of peppers we had never seen and witnessing Emily’s creativity, attention to detail, and desire to make everything perfect with her craftsmanship made the experience unforgettable.

We had the privilege of taking off our shoes, putting our hands in the soil, and harvesting ingredients that would become the salsas, side dishes, condiments, and marinades for your very own Cocina de Humo. Being able to transform food grown with love by your family into a meal shared on your wedding day made it easy for us to pour our hearts into every detail.

Chef Dio and I wish you a lifetime filled with happiness, health, beautiful adventures, and everlasting love. Thank you for trusting us and allowing us to be part of such an important milestone.

The pictures could never fully capture how special and beautiful this experience truly was. ❤️‍🔥🌿

Congratulations, JP and Emily!

When we closed Cantina La Martina in Kensington last November, we said it wasn’t goodbye it was “see you soon.”

Over the past year, we’ve worked quietly behind the scenes. Realtors reached out, and we explored several opportunities, but nothing felt quite right. We didn’t want to return in a way that didn’t feel genuine. We wanted to wait until we found the right fit one that felt true to Cantina and to the community where our story began.

In the meantime, something very special was happening at inside . Our collaboration there has been an incredible success, and we remain deeply grateful to the entire Human Robot team for their partnership, friendship, and continued support.

Our relationship with Human Robot Brewery began with a friendship formed in Kensington. We initially explored the possibility of transforming another Kensington space into a new home for Cantina, but the financial investment required made that option unworkable. So, when the Human Robot team approached us about bringing Cantina to their 5th Street location, it felt like the perfect full circle moment.

And now, we’re thrilled to share the big news:

CANTINA LA MARTINA IS COMING BACK TO PHILLY!

We’re partnering with Human Robot at 5th Street in Kensington and on Girard Avenue in Brewerytown to bring back the Cantina La Martina food you’ve been missing.

🌮 At Human Robot 5th Street: we’ll begin by serving tacos, nachos, burritos, and wings.

🌯 At Human Robot Girard: we’ll be serving our signature burritos and burrito bowls.

And we already have more surprises planned for the future!

The grand opening for both locations will be Sunday, September 13. Stay tuned we’ll also be sharing something special that we hope you’ll join us for in celebration of Mexican Independence Day. 🇲🇽

To the Human Robot team: thank you for your friendship, trust, and support.

To everyone in Philadelphia who continued checking in, asking what was next, and visiting us in Jenkintown, Ambler, Cottman, and at events throughout the region: thank you for sticking with us and believing in Cantina.

We promised this wasn’t the end.

Now, we can’t wait to welcome you back to Cantina La Martina in Kensington and introduce you to our new home in Brewerytown!

Con cariño,

Chef Dionicio & Mariangeli

🍔 What’s a cemita? A cemita is an iconic sandwich from Puebla, Mexico. Traditionally, it is served on a sesame-seeded roll layered with quesillo (Oaxacan cheese), papalo, avocado, and a choice of filling. For the festival, however, participating restaurants are invited to put their own creative spin on the sandwich, drawing inspiration from their individual culinary backgrounds while honoring the traditions that make the cemita so beloved.
