Backstory
Cheri Davies and Sue Stathers opened the doors of Tillies Icon on July 7, 2011 in Alexandria, Indiana after renovating a vacant building. Over the next six years, the two established a business that continued to grow and became a major supporter of the community.
With family bar business experience, Sue found the building and invited Cheri, whose family experience offered a background in the restaurant business, to look at the building. The endeavor provided Alexandria with an establishment offering a restaurant menu which included Cheri’s mother’s infamous breaded tenderloin recipe, spirits, live entertainment and community support.
Throughout the years, Cheri and Sue not only ran the established business and occupied a vacant building; they were strong supporters of the community. Each year, they supported Breast Cancer Awareness month in October not only to honor Cheri’s mother’s personal struggle but to support the Community Hospital Foundation’s Breast Health Services. Beginning in 2013 raising $350 for the cause, they raised over $5,000 for the cause over four years. In addition, they made financial donations to the Alexandria Community Fireworks Fund, the Alexandria Toy Drive, the Alexandria Pet Food collection effort for sheltered animals in Alexandria, and more. Councilman Bob Stinson, from Alexandria, said, “I think they (Cheri and Sue) have done a great service to the community and for this neighborhood”.
