PERRY HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI HONOR ROLL

Shea Padilla Boschee, Class of 1986

Note: This is the first of a series of articles about notable Perry High School alumni to be inducted into the PHS Alumni Association Honor Roll on Friday, Sept. 18, at the FB&T Center in Perry.

Shea Padilla Boschee, PHS Class of 1986, was born and raised in Perry. Shea built a life on the community’s core values of hard work and service. After earning a degree from Oklahoma State University, Shea launched a YMCA career that has spanned more than three decades, including executive leadership roles in Tulsa, Dallas, and Fort Worth. Today, Shea works with YMCA of the USA as Director of Executive Leadership/CEO Search, partnering with YMCA boards nationwide to identify, recruit, and support chief executive officers.

Despite the national reach of her positions, Shea’s roots remained in Noble County. In 2019, Shea returned home to serve as CEO of the Noble County Family YMCA, helping advance its growth and impact in the community while supporting fundraising efforts and the YMCA’s expansion and renovation plans.

Shea continues to invest in Perry through service on the Perry City Council, as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Perry, and as a former member of the Main Street of Perry Board of Directors. In 2025, Shea and spouse Scott purchased the historic Kumback Cafe to help preserve a beloved local landmark for future generations.

Shea and Scott have been married for 27 years and have four children: Maya, Zoe, Tiger, and Essie Grace. Shea is grateful for the guidance she received from teachers, mentors, and community members throughout her life and is proud to call Perry home.

Tickets and information about the banquet are available at PerryOkAlumni.com and at Kumback. PHSAA’s email address is [email protected].

Today’s Special is posted below.

Pictured below is one of the winners of the Back to School photo post. Historically we have given away a free meal for the back to school photo that has garnered the most reactions. But this year, we decided to up our game. We are going to reward a kid division as well as a teacher division.

Lucinda Stueve Leach is the winner of the teachers division, pictured below.

Leah Louise Calhoon is the winner of the kids division. Embarrassing your kids is an important part of being a parent.

Lucinda and Leah, next time you are in, your meal is on us. Oh. And we’ll buy the kid a meal too if he wears the shirt to dinner.

Today’s Special:

Meatloaf. Served with Mash Potatoes and Corn.

Hope to see you on the Square today.

We are trying out a new item today. I’ve wanted to make a few items with seafood for a while. One of our employees is allergic to shellfish so I didn’t want to take the risk. That employee is taking some time off, I guess this is a good time to try.

Today’s Special:

The Dolly Parton

Garlic Butter Sautéed Shrimp, Slivered Cabbage, Roma Tomatoes, Mayo, onions, Cajun Seasoning, and Remoulade on a French Roll. Served with a side of your choosing.

Disclaimer: I do not know anything about Dolly Partons eating habits. I make no claim that she was a fan of this concoction. She was an American icon and that’s good enough for me.

Hope to see you on the Square today.

The picture posted below is my favorite back to school photo. Ever.

It isn’t a particularly flattering photo of my two oldest children. It doesn’t illustrate their personas nor does it capture their love of learning.

No. The reason it serves as my favorite back to school photo is it won us 3 months of free house cleaning. You see my wife submitted it into a contest and it won and those were three glorious months.

On our food truck page we would run a similar contest and I enjoyed seeing all the back to school photos. So we’ll do it here too.

Feel free to post your back to school photos in the comments below. Whichever picture scores the most “reactions”, gets a free meal at the Kumback Lunch.

Hope to see you on the Square today.

Back to School.

Last night after work, I carried on a family tradition. For the past few years the number of participants has dwindled down each year.

The tradition? Back to School supply shopping. Last nights kid count? 1.

Actually now that I think about it, it has always just been 1. Even when we had 4 kids in school. Just 1.

I used to take one kid school supply shopping then unload the car at home. Then I would take the next kid supply shopping then unload the car at home. Then take the next kid supply shopping then unload the car at home. Then take the next kid supply shopping then unload the car at home.

I normally try to act in the most efficient means possible, just not when it came to school supply shopping.

The reason for doing so is likely nested in some deep rooted childhood issue I haven’t resolved. Maybe it’s because I never once went school supply shopping as a kid. At least not that I can remember and I’m pretty sure I would have remembered.

Last night was likely the last time I’ll ever do it too. Our youngest child is a senior this year and college kids just don’t need the same supplies.

What will I do with all my extra time one night next year?

Today’s Special:

French Dip- Shaved Roast Beef and Provolone Cheese on a French Roll served with a cup of housemade Au Jus and accompanied by the side dish of your choosing. That was one long sentence.

Hope to see you on the Square today.

Join us between 9am and 10am in sending Ms Brenda officially into retirement.

Bittersweet.

It doesn’t quite capture the moment but it will have to do.

I am happy to have met her. I am happy I have gotten to know her and her infectious smile and upbeat persona. I am happy to know that she is entering the next phase of her life by choice, not by necessity. I am excited to know that her next phase involves more time with grandkid(s). I suppose the sweet part is true.

Bitter implies hard feelings, which there are none. Unfortunate might be more fitting. It’s unfortunate that guests of Kumback Lunch will no longer get to enjoy the Ms Brenda experience. Not bitter, just unfortunate.

Happy Retirement Day Ms Brenda. Thank you for 30+ years of hard work and dedication.

Today’s Special:

Sausage Cheeseburger- Pork and Beef mixture, Mustard, American Cheese, and house made dill pickles. Served with French Fries unless you tell us differently.

Hope to see you on the Square today.

Today’s Special is posted below.

Day 1 of what I am thankful to Ms Brenda for.

At night I fall asleep within 27 seconds of my head hitting the pillow. I usually don’t set an alarm to wake up either. I sleep until my body says, “get up fat boy. You have stuff to do.”

Purchasing a restaurant that opens unofficially at 5:30am and officially at 6am put my sleeping patterns at risk. And it was something I was dreading.

Enter stage left, the heroine of this tiny tale. Ms Brenda. She shows up at 5:20am each and every morning. Has the place open and customers coffee’d before 5:30am.

She made the transition between owners extremely smooth for me and my sleeping patterns.

So Thank you Ms Brenda. I appreciate you.

Over the past few weeks many people have told me they will miss you being here and I agree with them completely. You will be missed more than you know.

Today’s Special:

Meatball Sub: Housemade Meatballs, Red Sauce, and Provolone Cheese on a French Roll. Served with a side of your choosing.

Sweet Treats:

Banana Pudding Cheesecake
Oatmeal Creme Pie Cheesecake
Mocha Cheesecake
Chocolate Cheesecake
Cherry Cheesecake

Hope to see you on the Square.

I’ve been hesitant to post this. I have been anticipating finding out that it was simply a cruel April Fools joke in the middle of July. But since it’s already August and nobody has hit me with the “gotcha”, it must be true. Unless the Perry Daily Journal is in on it as well.

This Friday will be the last day roaming the aisle ways of the Kumback Lunch for Ms Brenda. After 30+ years she is hanging up her server apron for the last time.

If Kumback Lunch is truly an icon of the community in Perry, it’s because of people like Ms Brenda. She has our served guests through multiple owners, next to hundreds of co-workers that have come and gone. She has served some of you your first meal in a restaurant and has served some of you while you celebrated the life of a departed loved one………and in all the life phases in between.

This Friday between 9am and 10am, we plan to celebrate Ms Brenda as she heads into her next stage in life. We invited all 3,536 of you to come in and celebrate her retirement as well.

Thank you Ms Brenda for taking care of Kumback guests for the past 30+ years. And if this was really a ploy to get a pay raise, I submit. The raise is yours.
