With a huge amount of sadness, I'm letting people know that the Hungry Loon is officially closed, at least for the immediate future. It's been a great run over the last 6.5 years. We've always strived to have great food at a reasonable price in a fun atmosphere. And generally, we've succeeded at that.
Unfortunately our entire star cooking staff are all moving on for different reasons. And the profit margins of owning a cafe are low, especially when you have a separate job and can't pitch in.
I have to thank my incredible staff who have kept thing going for the last couple years while I had other jobs. Debra Thayer was incredible at making new soups and baking pastries. Trisha Corbett expertly ran the kitchen and kept on top of ordering supplies. And Pam Goerges ran the front, and took care of all the business crap I wasn't good at. I couldn't have done it without her. We've been friends since high school and will be forever.
Carter Embry has gone from washing dishes to becoming a rock star cook. And Donna Moore has been a trooper, fighting through knee issues and still providing incredible service. Plus so many others have pitched in over the years, and I appreciate you all.
And a huge thank you to my dad, David Sjoblad, who was faithfully there most days, even though he's retired, just for the opportunity to drink my coffee, bu****it with people, and give them good natured crap.
But as much as anything, I'll miss our incredible customers, who have become like our family. So many regulars, whether they were in once or twice a day, to those with cabins nearby that stopped in a few times during the summer. I will miss you all, and finding out all the new things are going on with your lives. Thank you for sharing your meals with us.
We don't know what the future holds. We will look for people to buy the cafe or to find enough quality cooks to run the kitchen. Until then, I hope to see you all down the road. My heartfelt thanks to you all.
Ryan.
