As you may have heard by now, the 50’s diner has closed operations.
What a ride! Margaret Leonard Barbee started out with a dream!
Building a restaurant they would love. So, sitting at their kitchen table in 1991 they decided let's go! Both still had full-time jobs but ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work they did it. Starting out as Maid-Rite and evolving into the 50s Diner with four generations of family and extended family of loyal employees and customers. It has been a joy. Many a happy memory has been made at this place. With great meals, Shakes, Green Rivers, and thousands of cups of coffee, not to mention the car shows and other events, we reveled in being blessed to live the American Dream. And it will live on in our hearts forever. We appreciate your support Peoria! The loyal employees over the years was yet another generation of family that we will always appreciate and love. There has been more happiness than striving but if you’ve ever been in the restaurant business there are may twists and turns. There certainly has been. Tammy, Kelly and Emily have worked hard to continue the legacy that we now know in love and have done a great job keeping our customers fed and happy!
However, with the extreme rise and operating costs in all segments and many circumstances beyond our control. It is no longer sustainable. So, we thank you, and appreciate you and as Leonard Barbee would say see you later alligator!

For all my business friends. This guy has a stack of counterfeit $20’s. He was in the diner at 8:30am. He seems to be on foot. Keep your eye out
