Good Morning…
We are so sorry to bring this news, but we lost Mom yesterday and I have lost, clearly from this favorite picture of mine, my first love…
Mom went into the hospital on Valentine’s Day and came home Friday on hospice. We were with her in her final moments and those moments will forever be the hardest and most precious to us…
But, after (nearly) three of most difficult years of her life, she is finally resting, finally at peace, and finally released from a body that was not really hers. It was not the body that was still working full time at 77 or that could (and would) drive down the shore at a moment’s notice or cook for the entire family every summer. But, even without that body Mom was still Mom and we are eternally grateful to have been able to spend this time with her no matter how difficult.
We’re also so grateful for everyone in this community who made this time with her possible, for everyone who wore masks in the store in Pennington and Princeton without question even when it was uncomfortable so that we wouldn’t inadvertently bring anything home to her, who came to her 80th birthday at ribbon cutting, and who helped us get the space ready in time for that day. She was so happy to make it to that day after suffering a stroke on New Year’s Eve and to be able to see her special room. She was so worried she wouldn’t be here.
But, instead, she felt like a movie star and was tickled pink to meet the mayor of Princeton and see how many people supported us…
We would also like to thank our crew at Tipple for being in the mercantile the last few days so that we could be with Mom around the clock. Audrey, Meaghanne, Jillian, and Martin, you made the last few days infinitely less stressful and we were able to focus on what was important so we are especially grateful for that.
So, please raise a glass to this beautiful, resilient woman today, remember what is important in life, do that hard thing, watch the sunset, and take an extra bite of ice cream for her… ❤️
