Main Street of downtown Parkville, Missouri in 1957. The population was around 1,186 people according to the 1950 census, which was almost double the amount from the 1940 census. Parkville was originally a steamboat landing, but was purchased by Colonel George S. Park in 1838, platting it as Parkville in 1844. The town has been through river floods from the nearby Missouri River and train derailments, but continues to be a hub for community, local businesses, and nature-lovers with English Landing Park and the nature sanctuary.
