On September 11, 2001, I was in my classroom with a group of frightened teenagers, preparing to leave for the Utah State Fair. As we watched the attacks unfold, I remember feeling despair and anger all at once.

I had no idea then just how much our perception of the world would change overnight.

Today, we remember the innocent lives that were taken, the heroes who ran toward danger and the families whose lives were forever changed. We should also remember the unity we felt on September 12—when our differences seemed smaller and we stood together as Americans.

May we continue to challenge ourselves to overcome our differences and rebuild that spirit of unity.

We will never forget. God bless America. 🇺🇸
