On September 19, 1982, computer scientist Scott Fahlman posted a little combination of three ordinary keyboard characters on a Carnegie Mellon University message board:

There it is. 😂

It’s generally credited as the first documented use of the sideways smiley emoticon, created as a way to let people know when something written online was meant as a joke.

For those of us who remember life before emojis, there was a time when we had to make our own damn faces out of punctuation marks. 😂

So 44 years later, we’re celebrating one of the happiest little inventions in computer history the only way that makes sense…

Yes, you read that right — our phone lines are fecked. Haha.

Apparently this isn’t just a Nu-Way problem either. Landlines throughout the area, both business and residential, are having trouble receiving calls from cell phones right now.

We’ve got a call in to Frontier Communications, and they are working on it. We apologize for the inconvenience!

If this mess isn’t resolved by Friday morning, I’ll post my number (so don’t save this one. It is just for this evening) so you can reach us.

Thank you to everyone who came out for lunch today! We’ve sold out of the ravioli, so we’ve decided to close up shop a little early at 3 PM.

Amy also has her long-awaited appointment with the cataract surgeon first thing in the morning, so an early finish today works out just fine.

A little heads-up about a change coming to our Daily Specials beginning October 1.

We’ve noticed that quite a few of our customers, especially those picking up food to go, don’t want or need a drink with their meal.

So beginning October 1, most of our Daily Specials will be priced without automatically including a drink.

That means you won’t be paying for a drink unless you actually want one! We’ll adjust the prices of those specials accordingly, and you can always add a drink to your order.

And whenever we have a special where the drink IS included, we’ll make sure we clearly say so.

We think this gives everybody a little more choice and makes sense for both our dine-in and carryout customers.

We wanted to give everyone plenty of notice before the change takes effect.

As always, thank you for supporting our little hometown deli. We appreciate you more than you know!
