This is exactly why we don't offer s*xed chicks. The big hatcheries can eat the losses they incur from vent s*xing, because of the sheer number of chicks they sell. We hatch out chicks in an incubator in our home - nowhere near the same scale. ๐
We will keep offering straight run (that is, uns*xed) chicks, with the promise that we will take any unwanted roosters from our chicks.
We will often offer home-bred chicks for sale in the spring, of the various species we have.
We do permit buyers choice.
We DO NOT permit vent s*xing. Ever. Because this is a thing. Sorry not sorry. We are not going to let somebody squeeze all our chicks looking for something they (probably) can't even identity, only for us to be left with brooders full of dead chicks afterward. Or, they buy then and get home to discover they're dead, only to blame US for "bad/sick chicks"and put us on blast.
No.
Vent s*xing can be done by cooperations who eat their own losses, by people trained over the course of tens of thousands of birds. Homesteads should not vent s*x birds. Because this. Birds, especially baby birds, are very fragile creatures and getting squeezed by a giant's meaty paws ruptures all kinds of tender structures inside.
Everybody agrees that a human being squeezed or smashed by a cow hurts. The cow is only 5x your size. Not 1000.
