On October 24th in Tellico Plains, Tennessee…the Cherohala Skyway Festival takes place, bringing a full day of bluegrass music, Appalachian history, local crafts, food, and family fun to the Charles Hall Museum & Heritage Center. The 10th annual festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Cherohala Skyway with a Josh Graves Music Tribute. You can hear live bluegrass throughout the day, watch clogging, join a square dance, and walk past rows of handmade arts and crafts vendors. Living history camps, pioneer demonstrations, antique tractors, small engines, and museum displays share stories of Cherokee heritage, Appalachian logging, the Babcock railroad era, Bald River Falls, and the Cherohala Skyway. Kids can enjoy inflatables, train rides, pony rides, petting zoos, hay rides, wagon rides, crafts, games, face painting, and a sawdust dig for cash and prizes. Food trucks and festival treats give you plenty of choices throughout day. Festival admission and museum admission are free. The entrance is at 122 Bank Street, and designated festival parking is $10 per vehicle. It is also a great fall stop before or after driving the scenic Cherohala Skyway.
