Shock horror, Frisky Family… Mrs Frisky has named me Naughty Cat of the Week. She’s even put my name up in lights, just to make sure nobody misses it.

Apparently, this is because I’ve been peeing on the cat beds since The Lorax and Olivia moved in last week. Two new housemates arrive without consulting me, and somehow I’m the one with my name on a board.

Mrs Frisky keeps taking the beds home, washing them and bringing them back lovely and clean. I then add my personal touch, and off they go again. She says it’s almost as though I know she doesn’t have in-suite laundry. I couldn’t possibly comment, but I am becoming quite familiar with the turnaround time.

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

Percy McMercy, His Royal Floofiness, here with a rather important announcement from the Kingdom of Frisky.

I have been informed that the lovely humans at Whisker, makers of the Litter-Robot, have very kindly sent the Frisky felines our very own Litter-Robot AND invited us to become an official partner.

Naturally, as a feline of my position, I could not possibly be expected to conduct the unboxing and product testing myself. I have loyal subjects for that.

Or, more specifically, I have Sade.

I therefore instructed her to oversee proceedings on my behalf.

As you can see, she took her responsibilities extremely seriously. She inspected the box. She sat on the box. She got inside the box. And eventually, she even investigated the actual Litter-Robot.

Thorough work, Sade. The Crown is pleased.

Hi Frisky Family,

Magnus decided to supervise me today while I completed the Fear Free Shelters course. He was fascinated with the section on cat body language, but when we got to the dogs, he got bored, had a big yawn and decided to take a nap on the treadmill during that module!

I am passionate about animal welfare, and while I have gained a lot of hands-on experience caring for cats over the past four years, I am always open to learning more. The course covered both cats and dogs, building on my knowledge of animal behaviour and ways to help them feel less frightened and stressed in unpredictable environments.

Next up is a course on Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). Over the past four years, I have trapped cats and we have welcomed a number of TNR cats into Frisky who were considered suitable for socialisation and adoption. Magnus is a TNR baby himself, too. I want to build on that experience and increase my knowledge so I can continue improving the care and support we give these cats.

I thought I would share a little of what goes on behind the scenes as we continue caring for our Frisky felines.

Hi Frisky Family,

The Lorax here. I’d like to clear up a few things before the humans start taking credit for fixing our chandelier.

The transformer box blew during the power outages in a summer storm a month ago. Yesterday, Mrs Frisky, Marty and Ricky tried to fix it, but after all the holding, stretching and reaching, they realised they needed a taller human. Fortunately, Mrs Frisky has a 6’6” one at home, so Mr Frisky was brought in today.

With Marty, Ricky and Mr Frisky assembled, I climbed onto the ladder to take charge. As you can see, I was the only one who remembered to look at the camera so there would be a proper record of who actually did the work.

The boys did a reasonable job following my instructions, although it did take three of them to do what I was supervising single-pawedly. Mrs Frisky took photographs, presumably for my employee of the month nomination.

Our chandelier is now working again, and I’d like to thank Marty, Ricky and Mr Frisky for their assistance.

Hi Frisky Family,

Happy Sunday! I’m so pleased to share that our sweet 13-year-old boy, Buster, was adopted today by a lovely couple from San Diego.

This adoption feels particularly special because senior cats are so often overlooked. His new moms emailed me to say they would be happy to give Buster a home, and I couldn’t be happier that our lovely boy now has a family of his own.

We wish Buster and his new moms lots of love, happiness and many happy years together. Thank you for opening your hearts and your home to a senior boy who has so much love to give.

P.S. This brings us to 174 adoptions!

Macho Man update

Hi Frisky Family,

I promised I would keep you updated on our old boy.

Dr. Caldwell sent me this photo this evening and said that despite an appetite stimulant and an incredible buffet of different foods, unfortunately Macho Man is still not eating.

Dr. Caldwell and the medical team at The Palm Springs Animal Shelter have been absolutely incredible with him. They’re keeping a very close eye on him and trying everything they can to get him eating again. Dr. Caldwell told me tonight that the last time they had a diabetic cat who refused to eat, they eventually placed a feeding tube. We’re not at that point with Macho — we’re going to see how he does overnight — but hearing that really brought home to me just how much this team does for the animals in their care.

I cannot tell you how grateful I am for them.

It also made me think about just how many people Macho has in his corner.

Our Frisky team and volunteers care for our senior boy every day. They know his routines, his moods and his very definite opinions about how things should be done. And then there is our Frisky Family. So many of you have visited him, loved on him and sent messages asking how he is doing.

That’s what community animal welfare looks like to me. It isn’t one person or one organization. It’s a whole group of people showing up for an animal when he needs them, and I am very grateful to all of you.

I’ll be honest, I’m worried about him and feeling quite teary. He’s been at Frisky for nearly five months now and I love him very much.

So if you come into Frisky this weekend and ask me about Macho and I suddenly well up, please don’t be alarmed. It’s always been my philosophy that Frisky should be a safe place for tears and vulnerability as well as laughter and cat cuddles, and I include myself in that.

What does make me feel better is knowing how many people Macho has looking out for him — Dr. Caldwell and the shelter team, our Frisky team and volunteers, and all of you who have sent so much love his way.

For tonight, we wait and hope that our old boy finally gives in and eats something.

Come on, Macho Man. Just one bite.
