🕊️ My Heart Is Heavy, Yet Full of Gratitude.
Lastnight, February 9 at 11:20 p.m., God called my beautiful mother home.
*Insert* PLEASE NOTE THAT MY MOTHER HAD NOT PASSED YET IN THIS VIDEO. SHE WAS RESTING AT THE TIME.
Mother, Joyce Baxter transitioned peacefully surrounded by family. My sister and I stood on both sides of her comforting her as she took her final breathes.
I prayed over her, asking God to make her journey painless, fearless, and peaceful. I asked the Lord to receive her soul and welcome her with open arms. I thanked her for being the incredible Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother that she was. I promised her I would carry her legacy forward and continue to live for God all the days of my life.
My sister lovingly reassured her that we would be okay. Together, we gave her permission to release this world and rest in the bosom of God.
And she did.
My mother was humble. Loving. Giving. Full of faith, hope, and life. She was a true Prayer Warrior who loved a good old-fashioned praise break from time to time...actually, ALL the time. Family and Christ meant everything to her. She touched so many lives, from young to old, and anyone in between, she was always ready to help in any way she could. A true servant of the Lord. If you knew her, you felt her warmth. If you needed prayer, she covered you. If you were hungry, she feed you, if you were hurting, she showed up for you.
She taught us how to love deeply, serve faithfully, and trust God completely.
My heart is broken, but I am grateful. Grateful for every lesson, every prayer, every laugh, every hug, every moment. Grateful that she is no longer in pain. Grateful that she is resting in eternal peace.
God called His daughter home. She left behind a legacy of love, dignity and faith that will live on through anyone she has ever touched.
Mother Baxter lived an impactful life. She didn’t just say she was a "Believer and follower of Christ", she lived the life, and walked the talk! Her life was a "living" testimony of the Bible she read and believed.
She didn’t weaponize the Word of God; she wielded it with wisdom. She stood firmly on truth, yet corrected with love. She understood what Scripture teaches: “Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.”
That is how she led souls to Christ, not with judgment, not with condemnation, but with grace, patience, and a love that made you want to know the God she served. She didn’t argue people into salvation; she lived them into it. Her faith was gentle, her conviction was strong, and her life pointed unmistakably to Jesus.
Because of how she loved, people saw Christ.Because of how she lived, people felt God. And because of her obedience, lives were changed eternally.
Please keep our family in your prayers as we navigate this unimaginable loss. And if she ever prayed for you, encouraged you, loved on you, or poured into your life, know that you are part of her legacy. Heaven has now sealed her testimony, and we believe God greeted her with “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.” Her prayers still speak. Her faith still walks. Her love still covers. What God planted through her will continue to grow, from generation to generation.
Rest well, Mother.
I love you forever. 🕊️🤍
Your work here is done.
We thank each of you who prayed, called, checked on us, sat with us, and covered our family through this sacred and difficult journey. Your love, your words, and your prayers carried us in ways we cannot fully express. We have felt every ounce of it.
Details regarding her homegoing celebration of life will be shared soon. In accordance with her wishes, Mother Baxter will be returning home to Delaware, where we will gather to honor her life, her faith, and her beautiful legacy from "Missionary to Mother - a life of Prayer and Praise."
And a special thank you to my baby sister, Sharonda Baxter-Mims who became our mother’s hands, feet, voice, and strength these last few years. She carried the weight with grace, managed every appointment, every detail, every need, and poured her whole heart into caring for Mother. Your love showed up daily. Your sacrifice mattered. Heaven saw you, and so did we!
