After much thought, and with very mixed emotions, we have made the difficult decision to pause Freida’s Bakery operations for now.
This is not the update we ever imagined having to share, especially after finally reopening our doors this past weekend.
The support for Freida’s has meant more to us than we can put into words. Your enthusiasm, kindness, loyalty, and encouragement have been truly humbling. What started as a tiny bakery nearly three years ago has grown into something far beyond what we ever imagined.
At the same time, the needs of the bakery have outgrown what our current space and production setup can reasonably support. We have done everything we can to find a sustainable way forward, adapting wherever possible and investing in new equipment and improvements to our little shop.
Unfortunately, despite those efforts, we have encountered circumstances beyond our control that have made continuing to operate as we are no longer possible.
After everything we have poured into reopening, this is a heartbreaking turn of events for our family and our team. Rather than keep pushing and risk losing the quality, care, and spirit that made Freida’s special, we feel the most responsible thing we can do is step back and consider what a better path forward might look like.
We are deeply grateful to our staff, our customers, and everyone who has believed in us and encouraged us along the way. You’ve made our bread part of your dinner tables, our pastries part of your mornings, you’ve brought your family and friends through our doors, celebrated holidays and ordinary Saturdays with us, waited patiently when we sold out, and supported us through every change and challenge.
And after being closed for three and a half months, you came right back.
Seeing so many familiar faces this past weekend reminded us just how special this community is and how much Freida’s has come to mean to us.
For now, we’re taking a pause.
We don’t yet know what the next chapter of Freida’s looks like. We’re going to take some time to understand our options and determine a path forward.
For those who have Freida’s gift cards, please hold onto them. They remain valid, and we will share more information as we have a clearer understanding of what comes next.
Thank you for believing in us, supporting our family and our team, and helping this tiny bakery in The Hammock become something more special than we ever could have imagined.
