CHIG CHAT CAFE WEEKEND MUSIC!
03/25 - 03/26/23
Evelyn writes:

On Saturday, March 25th, from 10 a.m. - Noon at the Chit-Chat Café, Rick Saunders will perform Acoustic Rock using a live looping pedal.

From 12:30 – 3 p.m., The TrésFabs (Wally Rutherford, drums; Rick Mixter, guitars and vocals; Gil Deliso, bass and Joey Diamond, lead guitar) are excited to perform two sets of “smartass originals and classic rockers” this Saturday. Please join them to “relax your mind, to smile your face, and to dance your ass off!” Last month we thought that their new lead guitarist was really great!

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

On Mimosa Sunday, March 26th, from 10 a.m. - Noon at the Chit-Chat Café, Eddie Raymond & Friends return to perform Easy Listening, Soulful Music while you enjoy your bagel breakfast, coffee, mimosa and, hopefully, our ocean view - probably Eddie Raymond, Peter Innes, Kurt Graffy & John Picetti.

From 12:30 – 3:30 p.m., the very popular monthly Songwriters' Showcase emceed by Marc Theobald takes the stage! Marc has this to say: “These five fantastic musicians will be treating you and yours to impressive sounds in a variety of styles.*

• Dan Arwady is a drummer, guitarist, songwriter, and sound engineer. He writes and records under his own name and is also the co-founder of the bands Sure Fire Groove and Vara Wade. Originally from Chicago, Dan now lives in Pacifica with his wife Angela, his two sons Theo and Tyler, and his dog Levi. Dan has performed several times at the Chit-Chat Café.

• Mark Lauden Crosley is the guitarist and songwriter for the San Francisco acoustic band Stray Muse. His songs complement the band’s repertoire of traditional and “modern folk” tunes – they’re thoughtful, a bit blues-inflected, and catchy. Mark has played in various rock bands, including the infamous Partly Foggy, where he began writing original songs. He has also published several books, including Some Way Outa Here, an autobiographical novel about navigating the turbulent Woodstock years as a music-obsessed teenager. He’s dabbled in careers as an architect, builder and technologist, but he keeps coming back to music. Mark has also performed previously at the Chit-Chat Café with Stray Muse.

• Since 2009, award winning singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/producer James Byfield has released 9 critically acclaimed albums of Blues, Americana, and Jazz under the stage name Blind Lemon Pledge. His latest album, A Satchel Full of Blues, was ranked #9 on the Roots Music Report’s Top 100 Acoustic Blues Albums, and #85 on the RMR’s Top 200 Blues Albums for the year 2021. It was also cited as one of the Top 25 Blues Albums in England. Byfield is known for the eclecticism and range of his songs. Blind Lemon Pledge and his band of the same name perform at the Chit-Chat Café on the first Sunday of every month to a very enthusiastic audience.

• Frances Ancheta is a Filipina American singer/songwriter and Bay Area native, growing up and living in both San Francisco and San Mateo County. Her style can be described as thoughtful and eclectic indie folk/pop/rock with multi-cultural influences. She’s released 3 albums and had radio airplay in the US, Canada, UK, and Spain. She has performed previously at the Chit-Chat Café.

• James Napoli was raised in New York City during the ‘60s, in a large household emanating all styles of music from opera to Jimi Hendrix. This greatly influenced James who now performs classical, rock/pop and originals. Moving to the Bay Area in the ‘70s, James played in a variety of bands while he was working on his degrees and teaching. Over the years he founded and fronted rock bands including Generator and Blind Justice. At times, James also played as a sideman in blues and funk bands as he never turned down a gig. The music never stopped all through his 31-year career in law. His current ensemble, Salty Dawgs, is a performance trio with voice, keyboard, sax and drums.

And, finally, from 4:30 - 6 p.m. (NOTE TIME), Jim Moore & Friends (Joe Hartnett, Johnny Boy and Special Guest Rosey). From Jim's website: "Jim plays guitar and sings, Joe plays pedal steel, harmonica, and sings. Johnny Boy plays percussion. We play an eclectic mix of material ranging from down home blues to deep country. Jim’s songwriting is very soulful and heart felt."

Weekend sandwich is corned beef on rye bread!
☘️🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

Half of this weekend's performances will be unique experiences with Music that is not often heard at the Chit-Chat Café!!! It also appears that two of the bands are NEW to us. EnJOY it while you can, aided by the current belief that it won't rain again until next Tuesday!
************************************
🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
On Friday, March 17th, HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY! From 12:30 - 3 p.m. we have a rare and SPECIAL EVENT: The Lighthouse String Band will perform Celtic Music - Jigs and Reels - and the Café will have Corned Beef sandwiches and Beer on the menu as part of the celebration! The Musicians will be Raymond Tsang on fiddle, Helen Tsang on fiddle, mandolin, bodhran and vocals, Marsha Murphy on mandolin, octave mandolin, bodhran and vocals, Jim Tillotson on fiddle and bouzouki and Drew Phillips on cello.
🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

On Saturday, March 18th, at the Chit-Chat Café, from 10 a.m. - Noon, Cup of Jazz (formerly referred to as Rob Wullenjohn & Friends) performs Jazz standards and original compositions. Featuring Rob Wullenjohn on guitar, Todd Siemers on sax, Ken Chou on keyboards, Mark Patron on drums and Mark Eckert on bass.

From 12:30 - 3:00 p.m., Tonal Recall performs their monthly show of Pop-Rock covers to dance to! From John Hall: “Me, Patti Cobb, Phil McGee, Michael Gay serving up fine harmonies sensibly priced. Coffee, Tea, beer, wine, other beverages, light food, nice folks, no cover. See ya there!

🏡🏡🏘️🏘️🏠🏠🏡🏘️🏚️🏠🏡🏠
Another SPECIAL EVENT this weekend!: From 6 - 8 p.m., there will be a Farewell Party for PHIL HARTMAN who has retired and is moving to Florida in a few weeks!!! Emceed by Frank Schilling with Original Indie-Rock by Zoo Room, a band that I think is NEW to us! The Café will be open to all for the purchase of the usual food and beverages, including wine, beer and other assorted light alcoholic drinks. Come and bid Phil a Fond and Grateful Farewell! His departure really signals the end of an era for us and I, personally, am Glad for him and his Family, but sad for us.

🏡🏡🏠🏠🏚️🏘️🏘️🏘️🏡🏡🏡🏡🏡

On Mimosa Sunday, March 19th, from 10 a.m. - Noon at the Chit-Chat Café, Eddie Raymond & Friends perform Easy Listening, Soul-full Music while you enjoy your bagel breakfast, coffee, mimosa and, hopefully, our ocean view - probably Eddie Raymond, Peter Innes, Kurt Graffy & John Picetti.

From 12:30 - 3 p.m., the Hardly Strictly Hawaiian Aloha Band offers Ukulele music and Hawaiian dancers. The only other thing that I know about them is that they are NOT one of Scott Tong's band configurations, so I am GUESSing that they are NEW to the Chat!

CHIT CHAT CAFE WEEKEND MUSIC!!
March 11& 12, 2023
Evelyn writes:

This is going to be one of those FANtastic weekends where some of you, like me, will be wondering why we even have to go home on Saturday afternoon, only to return on Sunday (after we have set our clocks ahead one hour because of Daylight Savings)!!! It is a real shame that the upstairs apartments are not dormitories! In addition to the fabulous line-up, we can look forward to having Becky Christ back with us to perform for the first time since the pandemic and her fabulous and amazing progress in recovering from her own personal health challenges! Also, Saturday will be the second-to-last time we will be Graced with seeing and hearing Phil Hartman enter into a very mesmerizing zone of his own while playing his fretless bass! Be sure to express your Gratitude to Phil for his many years of entertaining us if you have the chance! And to Becky for once again beautifying our "stage"!

&&&&&&&&&&&&&

On Saturday, March 11th, at the Chit-Chat Café, from 10 a.m. - Noon, Karen Imperial & Doug Jones perform songs from the 60s and 70s with their voices and guitars.

From 12:30 - 3 p.m., the event we have literally been waiting YEARS for: The Sure-to-be Triumphant Return of the John Hall & Friends SingAlong Circus!!! From John Hall: “Me, Jon Christ, Becky Christ, Nick Evanson, Phil Hartman, Dennis Sherman, Melinda Zarrett and YOU singing songs with iconic choruses. No cover, no minimum (But please spend some money), no problem!” This group was a MAJOR hit from the time of their very first song back in the day (2011?) and have remained so with each performance. No one invites audience participation more than they do; they even hand out percussion instruments so that we can do our best to raise the roof during one song! Never have the words “I don't wanna work – I just wanna bang on the drum all day!” been truer!

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

On Mimosa Sunday, March 12th, SET YOUR CLOCKS AHEAD BY ONE HOUR and then join, from 10 a.m. - Noon at the Chit-Chat Café, Eddie Raymond & Friends performing Easy Listening, Soulful Music while you enjoy your bagel breakfast, coffee, mimosa and, hopefully, our ocean view - probably Eddie Raymond, Peter Innes, Kurt Graffy & John Picetti.

From 12:30 – 3 p.m., Sing the Beatles will be led by Patti Cobb & Bryan Uhlenbrock with Bruce Herbold on percussion. Patti said, “This will be a more acoustic, vocal-focused exploration of musically adventurous or “progressive” tunes. As Bryan puts it, "One of the amazing things about the Fab 4 to my mind is that they were constantly coming up with new directions for their music... and the rest of the music industry invariably followed their lead. From not having one single frontman/singer... to writing most of their own songs... to not following the standard I-IV-V chord structure that most rock & roll was built around... and on & on & on, the Beatles were generally at the forefront of the incredible changes that pop music (and the society it reflected!) went through in the middle-to-late sixties.” The tentative setlists will be available later today.

CHIT CHAT CAFE WEEKEND
MUSIC, 03/04 - 03/05/23!
Evelyn writes:

March 1st, is Chit-Chat Family Matriarch Mary Dougherty's birthday! Mary has been enJOYing and supporting Music at the Chat longer than I have (and I will begin Year 14 next month) and, even now with some physical challenges, she does her best to attend as many shows as she can! I am not sure if she will join us this Sunday, but please Wish her a Happy Next Revolution around the sun when next you see her! See photo below.

NOTE that Julianne Moscovitz performs both afternoons this weekend! Ahhh... to be Young and have so much Energy again!

*******************************************************

On Saturday, March 4th, at the Chit-Chat Café, from 10 a.m.

From 12:30 – 3:00 p.m., returning after their great debut last month, Sunkist! From Juli Moscovitz: “We are an Americana band, playing originals and old favorites. This month our band is comprised of these very skillful players and the possibility of a Special Guest:

Janet Lenore on guitar, ukulele, mandolin, original and cover vocals, Janet teaches ukulele workshops at many festivals in northern Ca. She also has several solo albums of her music.

Jeff Davis on bass. Jeff is playing with numerous bands around the Bay Area, his skills are in high demand.

Tom Cline on dobro. Tom is well known, he might say infamous, for his musicianship on the dobro. He also plays with many bands.

Juli Moscovitz on drums, guitar, original and cover vocals. Juli is known for her drumming with Blind Lemon Pledge and Amor, but in this band she gets a treat: she gets to sing and play guitar in addition to supporting on the drums.”

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

On Mimosa Sunday, March 5th, from 10 a.m. - Noon at the Chit-Chat Café, Eddie Raymond & Friends perform Easy Listening, Soulful Music while you enjoy your bagel breakfast, coffee, mimosa and, hopefully, our ocean view - probably Eddie Raymond, Peter Innes, Kurt Graffy & John Picetti.

Beginning at 1 p.m., Blind Lemon Pledge, the Chit Chat's resident Acoustic Blues band, return with their eclectic mix of Blues/Americana/old time Jazz/a few coves and great award-winning originals. With Rockin' Juli Moscovitz powering the percussion, Wailin' Sioux City Slim (Winston Andrews) blasting his “Mississippi Saxophone”, solid Mr. Peter Grenell on bass and vocals, and Blind Lemon Pledge (James Byfield) on guitars, vocals, songwriting and entertaining patter, the band always delivers a fun and rocking show. With a repertoire of over 80 songs, BLP is constantly adding to their set list and no show is ever the same! This Sunday they are promising a couple of recent additions, including a new original tune, never performed publicly. Come on by for what James calls “a grooving musical treat”. Note that he will also offer another when he joins the Songwriters Showcase this month on Sunday afternoon, March 26th!

I unexpectedly got to see and chat with Becky Christ on Sunday and let me tell you that she looks GREAT and was full of her pre-stroke level of typical Joy-full Energy and Love, especially when she showed me pictures of her adorable grandson, Tristan, who is already learning how to play his own tiny drum kit, thanks to Grandpa Jon Christ!!! Hopefully Tristan will grow up to be a leader among the folks I refer to as Chit-Chat: The Next Generation!!! You will be able to see Becky (and Jon) for yourselves at a special event being eagerly awaited at the Chit-Chat since before Covid – the return of the John Hall & Friends SingAlong Circus on Saturday afternoon, March 11th! I have said for many years now how much I Admire Phil for playing a fretless bass and I am Grateful for how much Pleasure he has given me for so demonstrably entering a zone when he plays! I am ALL about enJOYing watching people when they perform because their physical selves reflect so Beautifully what they are doing with their Hearts and Souls, all as a gift to us! John Hall comments “Nick Evanson, Phil Hartman, Dennis Sherman, Seth Affumando, Melinda Zarrett, Sharon McGowan reinforced with me, Ken Sailors, and maybe other Special Guests serving up Country and a few curves. From 12:30 - 3 p.m., The Songwriter's Showcase will be hosted by Marc Theobald who has this to say: “Come hear the latest original music from our talented local musicians. And mark your calendars for the March Showcase, to be held March 26th!
-- Scott M. Hill is a singer/songwriter in the San Francisco Bay Area, performing solo and with various bands, including Wall of Blues and The Accidents reggae band. Scott plays guitar, bass, and occasional keyboards. He is currently working on a new album of original indie tunes. *
-- Singer/songwriter Kevin Patrick McGee combines fingerstyle playing on 6- and 12-string acoustic guitars with poetic, thoughtful, evocative lyrics in genres ranging from rock to folk to alt-country and bluegrass. A San Francisco Bay Area native who has lived and traveled extensively in Europe and Japan, Kevin distills people, places, and things (real or imagined) into serious and humorous songs of love, loss, and hope. Kevin is a founding member of local Coastside band Ocean Shore Railroad (currently on hiatus). Kevin also performs as a tenor in San Francisco-based eclectic choral group Resound Ensemble and composes modern classical and electronic music.
--Alex Baechle is one of the main madmen behind local psych-prog-metal band Owl, who will release their 3rd record this year. After spending the first summer of the pandemic on the Oregon coast with little more than an acoustic guitar, Alex emerged with a batch of introspective acoustic explorations, ready to venture into new sonic territory. A writer, trail warrior, and social worker, Alex draws inspiration from the works of guitarists John Renbourn and Jorma Kaukonen.
--Chris Blea is a local Pacifica raised musician and songwriter. Whether he’s rocking out in a band, singing with an acoustic guitar, or walking around town with a violin - he always puts the music first. Born of a musical family, he started playing music at age 12 and has studied many genres since, from which he takes what he feels - as he feels it - to create his signature sound.
--Marc Theobald is a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. His music has been featured on several podcasts. He has released four album compilations with The Imperfectionists and has performed violin, guitar, and harmonica with additional ensembles around the Bay including “Stray Muse”, “Bum Wagler and His Tune Wranglers”, and “Ocean Shore Railroad”. Classical roots influence his original folk-rock style, which ranges from brooding to poignant.”
*NOTE: I would like to add to Marc's excellent promo that Scott Hill is well-known to Chit Chat audiences with and without his lovely daughter, Kacie, and originally joined us with his Beatles cover group, The Plastic Onion Band, in 2011!

Rod Reilly is an acoustic guitarist, originally from Dundee, Scotland. Only in recent years did he start writing original songs. He's also working on a concept album called "The Blunder Years", which is all about growing up as a teenager in 1980's Scotland.

David Cooper is a singer-songwriter using the guitar, mandolin and intuition as his tools.
