To our Cups Family,

Sadly, we will be closing our doors for good on August 15, 2020. My family and I are moving to Chattanooga, TN this fall to take a job with Young Life. Due to that and some other factors, it only made sense to close the shop.

These past 2 1/2 years have been a gift to me, my business partner Timmy Boudreaux 😏, and our families. We have a common love for coffee and creating a space in which to serve it, but we wanted Cups to be more than that for Oxford. Our business was coffee but our passion is people. If you’re reading this, I’m talking about you.

It brought us life when that first customer would roll up: a double shot for Brian. Large dark roast for Niles. Large Vanilla latte for Brandy. When Kelly drove up we knew... large iced brunette with coconut. Every morning the phone would ring around 7:20 and Tim was already starting Claire’s medium iced mocha before I even answered the phone. There’s so many more. Too many to list. You know who you are. We’re going to miss starting our mornings and making it through our afternoons with you.

All of our regulars. Like Aaron walking in, with a sly grin and a “Good morning sir”. Mr. Larry sitting with us at the bar talking life. Eduardo telling stories of the old country. We’re going to miss all the college students who would come in to study, having found a home away from home. The friend seekers, the business meeters, the textbook readers. The professors and the pastors. The ones who sit and the ones who split. We’re going to miss you.

The thing is, we believe that every person who walked through those doors matters and that your coming and going was no accident. It was a divine appointment. A gift for us to serve you. Sometimes in the heat of the day we could forget that, but that’s why we came back the next day. For you.

One of the best things for us that came out of this crazy COVID-19 season, were the conversations we got to have with you. We got to cry together, pray together, lament together, hope together and laugh a lot together. I guess what I’m trying to say in all that is ...

Thank you. Thank you for making Cups your coffee shop. We’re grateful.

Happy Friday! Here is the first question in our series for , where we send your questions to our friend Tyler, a local therapist here in Oxford. Tyler answers the question that several people had; “How do I support someone going through a breakup?” Check it out: https://youtu.be/DzNXYuFPpKo

We’re closing early tomorrow June 19th at 12:00 as we stop to celebrate the abolition of slavery in America!

*Disclaimer:
To be honest, we knew very little about this holiday until a few days ago. Obviously there is much more to be done in terms of emancipating the black community in our country. And our role as business owners and specifically as followers of Jesus has to be more than just Instagram posts and window chalk. We’ve been awakened to that. But this day is worth noting and celebrating, not just to stand in solidarity with the black community, but for the good of humanity 👊🏻

So, we had an idea! One of the things we’ve talked about a lot since Covid took over the world is this idea of social distancing and how it’s playing out in all of our lives. Community is vital for our happiness and mental health. And we’ve been forced to separate from friends and family.

Many of us are struggling with things... deep loneliness, depression, anxiety, etc. For me during the times that I’ve been struggling personally and wrestling with my own mental health, professional counselors were a game changer. I needed someone who was trained and equipped to help me answer some of the big questions I had and the hard things I was facing.

Because we see the need, and believe so deeply in the importance of counseling we decided to offer a little something to help. We’re partnering with our friend Tyler, who is a counselor here in Oxford to give you a resource. And you can remain completely anonymous. Here’s how it works:

1. Think of a question you have. like “What can I do if I’m feeling depressed?” OR “How do I walk with a friend who has lost someone? What is the best way to be there for them?”
2. DM ya your question. We’ll keep it completely anonymous and then we’ll pass the question on to Tyler
3. He’ll answer a few questions each week and we’ll post the videos on our social media.

We care about you. We care about your mental health. We’d love to attempt to help our people in some small way during this hard season.

Feel free to reach out to us! (Just for asking a question, we’ll throw a free cup coffee in there for you👊🏻)

To those in our Cups of Oxford family who are Black, Indigenous and People of Color,

Our hearts are heavy. We acknowledge that we’ll never fully understand what it’s like to be you. But we will stand with you. And for you. For the black community, for our friends of color, for the oppressed, for the voiceless, for the marginalized and for the persecuted. We stand in solidarity with those fighting for justice. We’re working to educate ourselves and our children. It’s time for us to listen and to learn. So from June 1 - June 7 we’re joining the movement. We’re muting ourselves so your voices can be amplified and heard. You matter.

We had a sweet opportunity this morning to partner with in serving coffee to all of our frontline medical workers at Baptist. We even made our own custom blondie syrup 😏

We just want to say thank to all of our medical workers, administrators and the entire hospital staff for everything you do for Oxford and our community. There’s really no way to truly say thank you but today ... the coffee’s on us. Keep going. We’re all grateful 👊🏻 @ Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi
