To our Monster Ice Cream Family,
The past week has been incredibly heavy for all of us. Over the last five years, I have poured my heart into serving this community and keeping your children safe. Seeing the pain, fear, and severe anger in our community recently has deeply saddened me. More than anything, I want to address your concerns directly, openly, and from the heart.
First, I want to say to every parent: I hear you, and I understand. As a parent myself, I completely validate your fears. If I did not know the situation personally, I would have reacted with the exact same protective instinct for my own child. Your job is to protect your kids, and you have every right to expect total transparency and safety from a business that serves them. I am deeply sorry for the shock and distress caused by how this information came to light.
I want to be completely honest about how this happened. This year, I offered a driving role to Georgia, a mother of four who has been trying to rebuild her life for 15 years after a deeply serious mistake and conviction in 2008. My only intention was to help a struggling friend provide food for her family and create good memories with her kids. Before letting her drive, we verified with the Michigan State Police that no laws were being broken. However, I now recognize that just because something is legal does not mean it accounts for the emotional trust you place in us. I made a decision based on personal trust, but I failed to consider how it would impact your trust in me. For that oversight, I sincerely apologize.
I also need to take accountability for the deeply unprofessional and sarcastic comments made on our page. Those did not come from me. During that exact time, I was at a nursing home with my dying mother and had turned off my phone to focus on bieng with her. The comments were made by a former employee who has since been let go, and some were made by Georgia herself in a misguided, desperate attempt to defend the business. They have been deleted. Still, as the owner, the buck stops with me. I am truly sorry for the added hurt those posts caused during an already tense time.
Because of safety concerns and the high volume of hostility we have received, I have pulled our drivers off the road for the time being.
I need some time to reflect on the future of Monster Ice Cream. I am heartbroken by how painful this has become for everyone involved. To our faithful customers who have supported us for five years, thank you for every smile you shared with us. I will keep you updated on whether we will return next season or if it is time for us to close this chapter.
With sincerity and respect
