We didn’t have this on our April 2026 bingo card, but tomatoes are now pushing $4 per pound. We’ve made the decision to absorb the additional cost, and we will not be taking them off our menu or adding a surcharge. Everyone’s dollar is stretched pretty far right now, and it just wouldn’t feel right to ask anyone to stretch it any further. Especially with all the support our customers have blessed us with over the years. We will ride this one out and wait for local tomatoes to come into season.

Also, it’s a good time to remind everyone that we do not charge extra to dress our sandwiches. You can add lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and condiments at no extra charge on any sandwich or Wonderburger. Also, we do not charge a fee to pay with a card. While this impacts our bottom line, we feel it is just another way we can offer our customers the best possible value. Thank you so much for your support, it’s what motivates us to show up seven days a week to serve you to the best of our ability.

Special shoutout to these hardworking team members that braved Winter Storm Fern and served guests until 2pm today at our location on Frederica. Both locations are now closed and will reopen after we have an opportunity to dig out from this mess. Stay safe and stay warm!

We are excited to announce that we have signed OHS phenom Evan Hampton to a one-day NIL deal. Evan will be joining our team on Frederica from 1-4pm on Monday 12/22 and will be available to meet, greet, and serve guests alongside our team members.

We will also be raising money for OHS athletics by offering a special soft serve cone we are calling the Twisted Devil. The Twisted Devil is vanilla ice cream twisted with Cherry Dole Whip on an Oreo cone. Each cone will be $5 and 100% of every Twisted Devil sold from 1-4pm on Monday will be donated to OHS athletics. If we sell 200 cones the OHS athletic department will receive $1,000, etc. This is a wonderful opportunity to raise money for Owensboro High School!

Evan is leaving soon to begin his journey as a student-athlete at Vanderbilt University. Evan’s hard work, determination and leadership on and off the football field have helped OHS football achieve new heights and earned him numerous individual awards including Kentucky Mr. Football and Gatorade Player of the Year. Please consider stopping by on Monday afternoon to congratulate him on his achievements and help raise some money for Owensboro High School!

On Saturday November 1st SNAP benefits are scheduled to be suspended as a result of the government shutdown. If this happens, some children in our community may grapple with food insecurity. We feel compelled to do our part to make sure that does not happen, so starting this Saturday until SNAP benefits are restored, we will be offering Grilled Cheese Kid’s Meals at no charge at both of our locations in Owensboro.

This offer includes one Grilled Cheese sandwich, one Kid’s French Fry, and one Kid’s Drink. This will only be offered for walk-up guests (not drive-thru). Children must be present, limited to one meal per child 12 and under per visit. Simply walk up to the window, ask for a Grilled Cheese Kid’s Meal, and our staff will serve you at no charge.

Thank you, Owensboro, for allowing us to serve you for the last eight decades.

Update:
1) Kid’s Meals are customarily limited to children 12 and under. We are offering a free Kid’s Meal, hence the age cutoff. Of course, we will not be asking for proof of age, so this shouldn’t be an issue.
2) Many have asked about donations, which is very heartwarming. We are not seeking donations, but if you live outside of Owensboro and would like to contribute there is a verified Venmo account posted in the comments (). If you live in Owensboro, the best way to help is to consider making a purchase at one of our locations in the coming months. Your business will help cover the costs of making this program a reality.
3) Saturday, 11/1/25: We have fed 129 children as of 9pm today. Thank you for the unsolicited donations that were so generously offered. We will continue the program tomorrow and every day thereafter until SNAP benefits are restored. Thank you for your support.
4) Monday, 11/17/25: Now that full SNAP benefits have been restored, we will no longer be offering free Grilled Cheese Kid’s Meals at either of our locations in Owensboro. We were able to feed 773 children at no cost during the government shutdown. Thank you to the generous and kind folks that offered donations to help make this possible. And thank you, Owensboro, for allowing us to serve you for the last eight decades.

Things on Frederica are moving faster than Darrell Waltrip at KMS back in ’68. We don’t have an opening date yet, but we hope to have an equipped facility within the next few weeks. We are kicking off a hiring blitz! We hired in a great group of folks earlier in the summer, but we still have some spots to fill. Our greatest need at the moment is for people that can work Monday through Friday during the day, in-between school drop off and pick up hours. And we are also still hiring for nights and weekends.

The hours and days can be flexible, and the pay may be better than what you think. No super early mornings or super late nights! We are a locally owned and operated family business and always have been. We have deep roots in the community and our goal is to build the best team possible.

We would like to take a moment to recognize one of our wonderful team members, Tiara, who is leaving for college this week. What’s special about Tiara is that she started working with us her first semester as a freshman and worked a consistent schedule all eight semesters while attending Owensboro Senior High. But what’s even more impressive is she did this while maintaining a 4.76 GPA, serving as class president, and participating in band, tennis, cross country and track. She’s also a Governor’s Scholar.

As a result of her hard work, determination and positive attitude, she earned a full scholarship valued at $360,000 to attend Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts where she will study neuroscience.

As a send-off we added her favorite flavor of Dole Whip this week, Watermelon, and will offer it for a few more weeks in her honor.

Tiara, we are so proud of you and can’t wait to see what kind of wonderful things you accomplish as you begin this next chapter of your life!

We would like to thank the First Tuesday Car Guys for visiting us today. These gentlemen pick a local restaurant to support on the first Tuesday of each month and today they chose Wonder Whip. Thank you for keeping classic car culture alive and well in Owensboro and we hope you guys enjoy many more miles in your amazing cars!

This year marks our 70th anniversary, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by opening a second location in Owensboro. This location will be on the corner of Frederica Street and Park Plaza Drive where Bowen Tire formerly operated. Work on a new building is underway and we hope to be open for business as early as this summer. We are proud to say that we have a great team of local contractors, architects and engineers lined up to make this project a reality. This was important to us, as we feel it would be disingenuous for us to encourage people to shop local and then hire firms from out of town.

The restaurant will be configured similarly to our existing location on old Highway 60, with walk-up service, drive-thru service and plenty of outdoor seating. The menu and pricing will also be the same as our existing location, although at least for the beginning, we may simplify it a bit and make some things exclusive to the original location and vice versa.

When we made the decision to resuscitate the restaurant almost ten years ago on a wing and a prayer, we were simply hoping to keep the Wonder Whip legacy alive for future generations to enjoy. What ended up happening completely surpassed our wildest expectations. None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our community, which makes us so excited to see some new faces and make some new friends on Frederica!

And while this news is celebratory in nature, we are well aware of the amount of work and the many challenges that lie ahead. The coming months will be filled with fun, excitement, fear, trepidation, stress, frustration…you name it and we will probably experience it. So buckle up Owensboro and follow along with us on this amazing journey. Let’s do this!
