Written last year | Looking forward
Ten years ago I arrived in Tahlequah to a place where speciality coffee was not only new to me but was unknown to our small town. I started by opening a small drive-thru coffee shop called Espresso911 and soon realized that to truly succeed in speciality coffee I needed to open a sit down coffeehouse experience where we could serve and present coffee as a true culinary experience. Handmade drinks, crepés and soups made from scratch not from a can or frozen. In 2012 The Beverage Lab we call Drip was born and Tahlequah embraced it big time and we have grown year over year ever since.
Our vision and philosophy is simple which starts with the commitment and statement of putting customer first. Every decision that Drip makes, from our porcelain mugs to the paint on our walls has always been made with the customer in mind. Treat people not only the way you wish to be treated but even better. Take the culinary and coffee craft seriously but never take yourself too seriously. Being a coffee snob and geek does not mean you need to be stuck-up or arrogant. The Drip business model worked and continues to work.
In 2017 we made the bold move to move from one location which was a tiny 600 sq feet space to a space that was over 2200 sq feet and two stories which is our present location. It was a hard and challenging move with many risks and costs but once again Tahlequah voted with their feet and dollars and embraced the changes. We are beyond thankful and humbled by the huge outpouring of support we have received and continue to receive since moving and expanding.
And now we have entered a new chapter of expansion. We decided to bring this vision and passion to the city of Owasso. This has been our most challenging expansion to date. Why? No drive thru, no parking in the front, we have to share the building and parking with two big popular businesses and we are in the part of the town that people are quick to forget. But we are determined and believe that quality service and products will win the day once more and people will chose to take the time to drive to that side of town at Seven 6 Main, park and walk in. The business model of esteeming your neighbor and customer better than yourself has worked since 2008 in Tahlequah, in a much smaller market and so we believe Owasso’s community will prove us right that we made the correct decision.
Here is to the future in two great Oklahoma cities and who knows, God only does, perhaps several more.
