Two weeks till Firelake Cookoff.
A little interview by contest in St Roberts MO coming up in March. For full article. https://visitpulaskicounty.org/meat-the-competition-bbq-teams/
PCTB: Tell us about your first BBQ competition win….
Dan Fike: First win was Smoke on the Border in Gravette Arkansas. Got two calls that day a 3 in chicken and 7 in pork. This was April of 2017. My fifth contest.
PCTB: What is a basic hour-by-hour breakdown of your team’s activities during a competition?
Dan: Light fire at 4 am and then it is something every fifteen minutes till we are done with the day at 1:30.
PCTB: What’s your favorite side to cook at competition?
Dan: Banana Pudding
PCTB: Outside of barbecue what is your favorite meal & sides?
Dan: A really good hamburger steak with brown gravy.
PCTB: For backyard barbecuers who are buying meat straight out of the case at their local grocery—what cut would you recommend mastering and why?
Dan: Master brisket. It is the hardest meat to cook. You’re trying to get it tender and keep it moist, while giving it a good flavor.

Seats for our Cowboy Cookoff win from a few weeks ago. OSU va Kansas today
Well we made it home from Harper Kansas and it was a great way to finish our 2019 season. Friday night Melissa took part in her first steak cook off. She placed second behind Robbie who had just won the World Steak Cook off a week earlier. Very proud of her to do so well with her first one.. Plus as a bonus we found out this morning that she won her Golden Ticket to the World Championships next year. It must of been her good instructions I gave her that helped her win!🤪
Saturday for the BBQ cook Melissa also entered the dessert contest and came in Second Place with it also. She was the rockstar this weekend.
As for me and my burned eyebrows and eyelashes:
6 th Place Chicken
For 9 th place overall
Thanks to everyone who supports us and to all our BBQ friends that make this hobby so fun.

Pictures of trip. Great times!
Well our Colorado trip is officially over. After 2200 miles or 40 car hours. We competed in two contest. Best I did was a 7th place brisket in Milliken. I think the altitude got to me a little and affected my cooks, but I am happy with everything for first cooks at these altitudes. We saw tons of Antelope, The Royal Gorge, Supermax, Elk, Big Horn Sheep and a Bear! We’re above tree line on a couple of occasions saw snow and even a man skiing on a small patch of snow. Had awesome food with awesome people. Now back to reality. Will post pictures hopefully tomorrow!
