The heat was relentless today at the National High School Barbecue Association Championship in Dallas, Texas, but this team never backed down.

Could not be more proud of the Caught Smokin’ BBQ Team. These students worked hard, stayed focused, and gave everything they had from the first fire lit to the final turn-in.

Win or lose, we left it all on the table and turned in some of the best barbecue we’ve cooked all year. That’s something to be proud of.

Now we wait for the results. No matter what happens, this team represented our program with skill, determination, and heart.

Days 3 & 4 in Atlanta ✔️

The last two days have been all about preparation, strategy, and getting competition-ready.

Our Culinary Arts and Commercial Baking competitors completed their SkillsUSA orientations, explored the competition environment, and made key adjustments to their game plans. We also had the opportunity to observe the College/Postsecondary competitions, gaining valuable insight into the level of ex*****on needed on the national stage.

Between competition prep, the team enjoyed some incredible food experiences, including a Michelin-recognized Korean BBQ dinner and breakfast at Bomb Biscuit Co.

Tonight, the final timelines have been reviewed, the game plans are locked in, and the team is ready.

Months of hard work have led to tomorrow.

Kansas is ready to compete.

Next Stop: Atlanta.

Today, Team Kansas (aka Broadmoor Bistro) leaves for the 2026 SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference, where our students will represent the State of Kansas on the national stage in Culinary Arts and Commercial Baking.

After months of training, practice, sacrifices, and countless hours in the kitchen, they now have the opportunity to compete against the best high school culinary and baking students in the country.

This week is about more than medals. It’s about professionalism, passion, craftsmanship, and the chance to earn life-changing scholarship opportunities—including full-ride scholarships to some of the nation’s top culinary programs.

Please help us wish Logan and Kim good luck as they proudly represent Broadmoor Bistro, Shawnee Mission School District, and the State of Kansas in Atlanta.

What a weekend — and what a moment for our students.

On Saturday we had the honor of hosting the Kansas State SkillsUSA Hospitality Competitions, welcoming incredible talent from across the state in Culinary Arts, Commercial Baking, and Table Service. Watching students push themselves, stay composed under pressure, and perform at a professional level is exactly why this work matters.

I could not be more proud of our competitors:

🥇 Logan S — 1st Place, Culinary Arts
🥉 Mikey H — 3rd Place, Culinary Arts
🥇 Kim M — 1st Place, Commercial Baking
🥉 Javi M — 3rd Place, Commercial Baking
🥇 Brielle — 1st Place, Table Service (not pictured)

Our gold medalists will now represent the State of Kansas as they travel to Atlanta in June to compete on the national stage — an incredible opportunity and a testament to their dedication and craft.

These results don’t happen by accident. They are the product of early mornings, long practices, relentless feedback, and a commitment to doing things the right way even when it’s hard.

Grateful to the judges, volunteers, advisors, and partners who make opportunities like this possible — and proud to see these students represent with professionalism, skill, and heart.

On to nationals.
