Showpig Trivia
***Guess the year, pedigree (boar and sow)***
This year was the 16th year in a row we have bannered at a state or national show. Most have been if not all out of boars we owned or raised.
I often think the only thing that is consistent in this industry is change. Keep up or get left behind but sometimes it’s fun to reflect and look back and remember animals that stood out in that time.
This is one of those animals.
When we talk about proportions and “short” backed —- this is what is meant and often misunderstood.
Not quick not short just proportioned.
Neck to blade, blade to hip, length of hip. All the same length. That is what it means.
To me a trait that is still misunderstood is how the muscle ties or wraps down into the hock. This barrow was incredibly deep tying and long hipped.
For all the discussion about quick, little, d***s this was not one of those.
He was literally “ longer than he was taller in all the right places. “
If you ever want to compare balance and proportions this is close to a prototype standard. Modern times would need a shot of bone but for then was giant.
